Clarification of PPE Reimbursement

Delta Dental of Wisconsin (DDWI) has received questions regarding the use of code D1999 - Unspecified Preventive Procedure, to cover the cost of infection control and PPE. Code D1999 is a procedure code and infection control, including PPE, is not considered a procedure. DDWI’s processing policy also states that infection control is considered part of and included in the fee for the complete service and therefore is not billable separately to the patient.

DDWI understands that the pandemic has caused dentists to incur additional costs, including those associated with infection control and PPE. To support you, we have developed the Practice Recovery Supplement Program (PRSP). Through this program, DDWI has committed $5 million to network providers to help offset some of the additional costs of providing care to Delta Dental of Wisconsin members, and to aid in ensuring the safety of you and your employees as you re-open your practice. The PRSP provides financial support with a one-time payment to all Delta Dental PPO™ and Delta Dental Premier® practices in good standing.
