Process Safety Management (PSM) is intended to prevent or minimize catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable or explosive materials from a process. This standard only applies to processes that use materials at a particular quantity which can vary by chemical. It also applies when you have 10,000 pounds or more of flammable liquids or gasses, as well as manufacturing explosives and pyrotechnics. This standard normally does not apply to most Oregon employers, and Oregon OSHA consultants can help identify processes that may be covered under the standard.
