If you're in need of a vaccination appointment, call Fayette County.
County officials have adapted their call center to become a scheduling center now that more people across the state are eligible to be vaccinated. The call center is operating out of the Uniontown Mall mass vaccination site.
"It's as simple as calling 724-430-3900 and these volunteers will make you an appointment, Fayette County COVID-19 Task Force Co-Chair Muriel Nuttall said.
There are plenty of appointments available. Nuttall estimated that as of Tuesday afternoon, about 2,000 out of 4,100 appointments were still open.
"We have the vaccine. They need to call," Nuttall said.
There's an increased sense of urgency for folks to make an appointment as COVID-19 case numbers are back on the rise. WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital currently has 17 COVID-19 patients, enough to cause concern for hospital officials.
"When you get into the teens that's full and our COVID-19 floor is basically full," WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital Community Relations Director Josh Krysak said.
At the peak, Uniontown Hospital was treating more than 80 patients in various wings of the hospital.
"We don't want to get in that position," Krysak said. "The vaccine is the way to fight back to do what needs to be done."
The call center to schedule an appointment is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is not solely for residents of Fayette County. Anyone interested can still register for an appointment on the county's website, and a volunteer will contact them the next day.
