Family members of deployed paratroopers with the 82nd Airborn Division are being briefed to double-check social media settings and report any strange messages they receive, according to a report in The Military Times. Several Fort Bragg families have complained of receiving 'menacing' messages.

According to officials, the messages appear to be a typical operational style warning referencing Iran, but offer no indication or proof they are actually sponsored by Iran.

Lt. Col. Mike Burns, a division spokesman, said, “Families have reported instances where they have received unsolicited contact with some menacing messaging."

One of the messages shared by The Military Times reads, “If you like your life and you want to see your family again, pack up your stuff right now and leave the Middle East. Go back to your country. You and your terrorist clown president brought nothing but terrorism. You fools underestimate the power of Iran. The recent attack on your [expletive] bases was just a little taste of our power. By killing our general, you dug your own grave. Before having more dead bodies, just leave the region for good and never look back.”

According to the report, this particular message was sent over Instagram, and the account used an image of the deceased Qassem Soleimani as a profile picture.

Families have been pointed to resources like a document describing safe online conduct.
