Is voting a fun thing to do? Unsure? We’re just going to make an executive decision and say that it is. So after you cast your ballot (assuming you haven’t already) in Tuesday’s statewide primary election, then make sure to reward yourself by checking out the rest of the fun things to do in and around Los Angeles this week.

Things To Do
David Sedaris at Vroman’s -> Humorist, essayist, and short story writer David Sedaris will be at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on Monday a special evening presenting his new collection of personal essays, Happy-Go-Lucky. Tickets are $29, and include a copy of the new book. More info here.
James Burrows in Conversation -> This Monday, The Wallis welcomes director/producer James Burrorws (Cheers, Taxi, Frasier) to the Bram Goldsmith Theater for a special evening of conversation opposite actor/director Jason Bateman. Tickets for the event are $61, and include a copy of Burrows’ new memoir, Directed. More info here.
Hot Tub With Kurt And Kristen -> Head to The Virgil on Monday for a hilarious variety show hosted by Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal. Each week they welcome a new group of comedians for a night of laughs. More info here.
SaMo PRIDE -> For 2022, Santa Monica Pride Month features a new month-long light installation called Miles of Pride, a rainbow colored spectacle that spans multiple miles in and around Downtown Santa Monica. Pride month also includes a slate of events throughout the city, including a PRIDE Marketplace every Friday through Sunday in June, a Queer Prom at Water Garden on June 18, and a sunset swim at the Annenberg Community Beach House on June 24. Dress Codes at The Autry -> What do a pair of jeans say about culture? How about a fringed jacket or an Aloha shirt? The Autry’s latest exhibition, Dress Codes, puts a focus on iconic western style to weave together how these iconic clothing items came to shape social identity in the American west. The exhibition showcases more than 150 objects from The Autry’s archive of clothing and textiles. Exhibition included with regular museum admission ($14 for adults). Open Tuesday through Sunday. Legendary, Charity, Drag Bingo -> Head to Hamburger Mary’s for Legendary, Charity, Drag Bingo, the sassiest bingo night in town. Happening Tuesday and Wednesday this week, expect surprise guests and fabulous prize packages all benefiting local and national charities.
MITHRA Mark Bradford -> Emerson Collective presents the Los Angeles debut of Mark Bradford’s “Mithra” (2008) at Los Angeles Historic Park. Mithra is a 70-foot-long sculpture commenting on the shared responsibilities to combat the threats of climate change. The sculpture is on view Tuesday, June 7 through July 11, 2022.
Tacos & Trivia -> Down some tacos, drink some locally brewed beers and test your trivia skills this Tuesday during Tacos & Trivia night at Angel City Brewery in DTLA.
In Conversation: Chuck D and Joan Morgan -> This Wednesday evening, the California African American Museum welcomes Public Enemy’s Chuck D for a special conversation with Joan Morgan, Program Director at the Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University. The program is free to attend with RSVP. More info here.
Lovett or Leave It -> On Wednesday, Crooked Media co-founder, and former Obama speechwriter, Jon Lovett is back at the The Dynasty Typewriter with another live edition of his podcast Lovett or Leave It. Get the skinny on the latest in the world of news and politics through as seen through Lovett’s acerbic perspective, and paired with panels discussing the latest issues. This week’s episode features special guests Adam Conover, Hannah Levintova, Brandon Scanell, and Brian Simpson. Tickets are $25. More info here.
New at The Broad -> Two new exhibitions are now open at The Broad, headlined by Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow. The specially ticketed exhibition is Murakami’s first solo show at the museum, and includes 18 of his works along with new immersive environments created by the artist and his studio, Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd. Also debuting on May 21 is This Is Not America’s Flag, an examination of the cultural identity through the works of twenty individual artists and their treatment (and often subversion) of the iconography of the flag. Tickets to access both new exhibitions are $18, and include same-day access to The Broad’s third floor galleries. The Broad is open Wednesday to Sunday.
Abuelita’s Kitchen: Mexican Food Stories -> LA Plaza Cocina is the nation’s first museum and teaching kitchen dedicated to Mexican food, and they have a brand new multimedia exhibition now open to the public. Abuelita’s Kitchen: Mexican Food Stories examines the importance of the abuela, or grandmother, in Mexican cuisine by showcasing the personal journeys of ten Indigenous, mestiza, Mexican-American, and Afro-Mexican women through a selection photographs, texts, recipes, and a documentary film. The exhibition runs Wednesday to Sunday through Sep. 4. Entry is free. More info here.
A Forest for the Trees -> A brand new experience by artist Glen Kaino (artistic producer of In & Of Itself on Broadway) is now open at Ace Mission Studios near DTLA. A Forest for the Trees pushes visitors to rethink their relationship to the natural world by immersing them in a surreal forest environment built within 28,000 square-feet of warehouse space. Check out animatronic head pieces, illusions of fire, and a dazzling light performance built upon the re-creation of a 144 year-old fig tree that once stood on Olvera Street. Adult tickets (non-peak hours) start at $20 per person during non-peak hours, and go for $30 during peak hours. Runs Wednesday to Sunday through the end of the summer. Get more info here.
Cosmic Karaoke -> Head down to Star Wars-themed Scum and Villainy Cantina in Hollywood for Cosmic Karaoke night every Thursday. There is no cover for this event.
Hollywood Fringe -> Dozens of venues, including The Broadwater, The Hudson and Three Clubs, host a huge slate of comedy, ensemble theatre, dance and immersive performances during the the three-week run of the annual Hollywood Fringe Festival. Runs June 9-26. More info here.

Drag Yourself to the Valley -> An evening of fiery drag performances comes The Garland in North Hollywood this Thursday at the second annual Drag Yourself to the Valley. Hosted by West Hollywood’s Billy Francesca, featured drag queens include Willam Belli, Adore Delano and Willow Pill. GA tickets start at $75 per person. More info here.
Summer of Salsa (June 10) -> The LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Summer of Salsa series runs one Friday each month through the end the summer, highlighting some of city’s best salsa and Cuban bands in the process. On June 10, the series continues with TROMBOR along with DJ Willie. Free to attend. More info here.
Culver City Arts District Night Market -> The Culver City Arts District Night Market at Ivy Station is a monthly event featuring over two dozen vendors and and plenty of local bites for purchase. Free to attend. Runs 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday. More info here.
Jazz at LACMA -> This Friday at 6 p.m., the Los Angeles County Museum of Art brings the Anthony Fung Quartet to Smidt Welcome Plaza as part of the ongoing Jazz at LACMA series, which continues every Friday evening through June 24. Admission is free, however seating is limited and first come, first served. More info here.
Pride Fridays at Melrose Rooftop Theatre -> West Hollywood’s Melrose Rooftop Theatre will be screening some of the most iconic LGBTQIA+ films every Friday throughout the month of June. Choose between two ticket options: a general admission screening ($35 per person) or a VIP package complete with a three-course dinner from E.P. Restaurant ($65 per person).

- Raspberry Candy Margarita at Brooklyn Ave Pizza Co. -> The Boyle Heights pizzeria is featuring a Raspberry Candy Margarita made with Tequila Blanco, pineapple juice, Cointreau liquor, Chambord raspberry liqueur, and fresh lime juice. 50% of all proceeds from the cocktail sales will be donated to the Latino Equality Alliance.
- Harvey Milk Punch at Gracias Madre West Hollywood -> Gracias Madre Beverage Director Maxwell Reis has brought back his Harvey Milk Punch for PRIDE. Named after San Francisco’s first openly homosexual politician the clarified punch is made with hi-proof Don Fulano blanco tequila, mango brandy, Lo Fi dry vermouth, pineapple, poblano chili, jasmine green tea, lime oleo, Oaxacan spice blend and coconut milk. $1 from each cocktail sold will go to the Los Angeles LBGTQ Center.
- The Love Cocktail at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows -> Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows will celebrate with The Love a mezcal highball made with French melon, cucumber, mint and soda. A zero-proof version is also available. The cocktail will be available throughout the month of June at FIG Restaurant, Lobby Lounge, and poolside. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
- Bandera at Sparrow Italia -> Located at Hotel Figueroa, Sparrow Italia’s PRIDE cocktail, the Bandera is made with El Tesoro Blanco, passion fruit, simple syrup, lemon, Combier Le bleu, mint, and Peychaud’s Bitters. A portion of proceeds will be donated to The Trevor Project.
Everytable Openings Giving Away 200 Meals -> Everytable was born out of South Los Angeles with a mission to fight food injustice by stationing their grab and go stores and delivery radius in food desert locations across the county. Made-from-scratch meals are priced according to what a specific neighborhood can afford ranging from $6 to $9. This year they’re expanding their efforts and this week three new spots will celebrate their grand opening by giving away a free meal to the first 200 guests (while supplies last.) Locations this week include West LA, Culver City and South LA. Local DJs as well as local brands sampling products in partnership with Everytable will also be part of each grand opening. Breakfast Burritos at Gogo’s Tacos -> Gogo’s Tacos just added breakfast burritos to the menu in three options: bacon & egg, beef chorizo and soy chorizo. All burritos are stuffed with crispy tater tots and melted cheese. Breakfast burritos are available from 7 to 11 a.m. starting Monday.
Pasta Night at Pizzana Sherman Oaks -> Pizzana recently expanded their footprint to Sherman Oaks, and Chef Daniele Uditi’s popular Pasta Night will make its debut at their valley location on Tuesday, June 7. Guests can expect four handmade pastas to be featured for lunch and dinner alongside Pizzana’s a la carte menu. Available only for dine-in, pastas announced so far include Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe, Amatriciana and Garganelli alla Vodka. A mystery pasta will also be revealed the day-of.
