Several groups want New Orleans to stop expanding crime camera program

MAYBE THERE IS SOME BENEFIT, BUT WHAT I THINK IS MOST DISTURBING IS THE PUBLIC DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT IT. TAMMY: ALTHOUGH THE INDEPENDENT POLICE MONITOR SAID THEY HAVE NO STANCE ON THE ISSUE OF CRIME CAMERAS. THE IPM SAYS THE PROGRAMS LACK ACCOUNTABILITY, OVERSITE. LEGAL FRAMEWORK AND COMMUNITY INPUT. WHEN THE LANDRIEU ADMINISTRATION DECIDED TO PUT THESE CAMERAS U >> THEY SHOULD SPEND THE MONEY ON GETTING POLIC TRAINING. BY THE TIME THEY SEE THE CAMERA, THE CRIMES ARE ALREADY DONE. TAMMY: THE INDEPENDENT POLICE MONITOR SAYS OVER 527 CAMERAS ARE CURRENTLY FEEDING INTO THE REAL TIME CRIME CENTER. THE CITY RUN NETWORK ALSO HAS ACCESS TO THE STREAMING FOOTAGE OF 125 PLUS PRIVATELY OWNE CAMERAS. CAR INSURANCE, HEALTH CAR, PEOPLE ARE SUBJECT TO MORE CRIMINALIZATION. THAT’S ALL WE SEE FROM THIS. Several groups say they want the city of New Orleans to stop expanding its crime camera program. Those groups say one of many problems with the program is that there isn't enough oversight. According to the Independent Police Monitor, more than 500 cameras are currently feeding into the real time crime center.
