Market Basket, Whole Foods workers test positive for COVID-19
Market Basket in Chelsea and Whole Foods in Brookline confirm workers at those stores have tested positive for COVID-19.
Market Basket said Tuesday that two employees at its Chelsea store have tested positive for COVID-19.
“The health and safety of our Associates and that of our customers are our highest priority and we are moving swiftly to take all of the appropriate measures and ensure that we can continue to serve our customers in good health,” said Justine Griffin, spokeswoman for Market Basket.
The chain said it has contacted the Chelsea Board of Health and are following guidance, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols.
“In addition to Market Basket’s heightened disinfection program, we brought in a specialized cleaning crew who cleaned and disinfected the store over the weekend,” Griffin said.
An employee of Whole Foods in Brookline has tested positive for COVID-19, the chain confirmed Tuesday.
“The safety of our Team Members and customers is our top priority and we are diligently following all guidance from local health and food safety authorities,” Whole Foods said in a statement.
The chain did not release any information about the worker.
“We’ve been working closely with our store Team Members, and are supporting the diagnosed Team Member, who is in quarantine,” the statement said.
Additional cleanings and disinfection were performed at the store.
Both chains said they have previously implemented heightened disinfection programs, encouraging good hygiene and were operating under social distancing guidelines in stores and facilities.
