Q: I am taking a course through an out-of-state university, and I need to take a computerized test with a proctor. Does UHV offer testing services?

A: The University of Houston-Victoria has testing services available to the public for several needs. This is an important service because it allows residents to take tests in Victoria instead of driving to Corpus Christi, Houston or San Antonio.

Proctoring can be organized with the help of the institution that requires the test. The person who needs to take the test should work with their university to send the required forms directly to UHV, or the person can bring the completed forms to UHV. It’s best to allow five days to two weeks before the test to make sure UHV’s Testing Center has received all the necessary exam materials.

Another test that’s available through the center is the Miller Analogies Test, which is used by some universities for graduate program admissions. Students who want to apply to UHV or Victoria College and need to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment also can use the center. Students who want to apply to other community colleges or universities are able to use the center as well. The center is a remote testing site for the TSI and Accuplacer, which allows students to get a voucher from their college of choice and take the test at UHV.

In addition, area industrial and water works employees can take Texas Commission on Environmental Quality occupational licensing exams through the center. These exams are offered for candidates who take courses and submit applications to TCEQ to receive their licenses to work with water systems and other processes that may impact the environment.

UHV also has applied to be a Pearson VUE testing site for the Texas Educator Certification Examination, which is the test teachers must pass in order to be certified to teach in Texas public schools. The university hopes to have this available by the summer.

Several tests require fees. More information about each test and the necessary testing fee is available at uhv.edu/testing. The website also has a link to RegisterBlast, the university’s online test registration system.
