Grand Theft Auto 6′s trailer is finally here. Rockstar Games dropped the greatly anticipated teaser on Tuesday (Dec. 5). The trailer takes players on an emotional ride through the Miami-inspired streets of Vice City. GTA 6’s setting is a callback to 2002’s GTA entry of the same name.
Lucia, the franchise’s first-ever female protagonist, appears alongside an unnamed male character. The trailer starts with Lucia talking to a corrections officer about her time behind bars.
Viewers are then thrust into neon-lit tropical chaos soundtracked by Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road.” Lucia can be seen riding shotgun with the unknown man as they gear up for a robbery. She then talks to him about potentially leaving behind their life of crime. “The only way we’ll get through this is by sticking together. Being a team. Trust?” To which the man replies, “Trust.” The scene shifts to the pair kicking open a door to rob a store.
Additionally, the trailer shows glimpses of wildlife in the Everglades, street racing, strip clubs, and more, highlighting Rockstar Games’ graphical improvements. References to real-life Florida chaos are also sprinkled throughout the trailer. For example, the visuals directly referenced the Florida Joker, who committed multiple criminal acts in the “Sunshine State.”
Rockstar also flexes their development muscle by showing off their new hair physics, lighting, shadows, and attention to pop and modern Florida culture.
GTA 6 is set to be released for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X in 2025.
Grand Theft Auto first hit the streets in 1997. The game has since become a staple in gaming and the zeitgeist at large. GTA has also become synonymous with the open-world genre and is known for its violent nature. In the game, players are free to do whatever they want as long as they can out-maneuver the police and other opposition.
The previous installment, GTA 5, was released in 2013. Grand Theft Auto 5 had the highest “revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours after making $815.7 million on release day.” According to Guinness World Records, GTA 5 became the fastest video game to gross $1 billion. The game was also critically acclaimed upon release.
