County administers 9,111 COVID-19 vaccine doses Friday; 453 new cases, 18 deaths reported

Ventura County reported 9,111 additional COVID-19 vaccine doses administered, 453 new cases and 18 deaths on Friday, according to the newest public health update.

The latest vaccine doses brought the total number administered up to 115,510. The doses include 26,554 people who have received two doses of the vaccine, which is required for peak immunity, while the remaining 88,956 have received only one dose.

County data shows the vaccine has been given to 33,452 residents age 75 or older, 13,704 residents between the ages of 65 and 74, and 43,420 residents under the age of 64.

Ventura County officials are working to expand vaccine administration capacity up to 50,000 doses a week by the end of the month through opening new vaccination sites, first in Oxnard and Camarillo and later in Ojai, Simi Valley and Santa Paula. Additionally, on Thursday a vaccine pilot program was launched for farmworkers at Kimball Ranches-El Hogar and Rancho Simpatica. 

Friday's new COVID-19 positive cases come after 169 cases and 18 deaths reported Thursday to bring totals up to 74,671 cases and 732 deaths. The 36 fatal cases recorded over the past two days ranged from a 48-year-old man to a 95-year-old woman, with the following age and gender breakdown:

  • 40s: one man
  • 50s: four men, one woman
  • 60s: six men, one woman
  • 70s: seven men
  • 80s:  11 men, two women
  • 90s: three women

Regarding nonfatal cases, Ventura County had 2,234 actively infectious cases under quarantine, while 71,705 have recovered from the virus.

Hospitalizations continued a declining trend on Friday, with 226 positive cases among the county's eight hospitals, down from 237 reported Thursday. Cases within intensive care units also decreased significantly, from 60 down to 52.

Ventura County processed 6,537 test results on Friday, bringing the total number of tests performed up to 1,051,626. The county has added 45,103 tests since last Friday.
