Richard C. McCarty
Professor of Psychology
Although I have been involved in university administration for most of the past 25 years (department chair at the University of Virginia, executive director for science at APA, and dean of arts and science and provost at Vanderbilt University), I have maintained an interest in the psychobiology of stress. Much of my previous laboratory research involved studies of the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal medulla in laboratory rats exposed to acute versus chronic intermittent stress.
