Experts have many questions about how the coronavirus affects the pancreas and whether the diabetes that arises in some COVID-19 patients is temporary or long term. Ruth Weinstock, MD, PhD, goes over what is known about diabetes that stems from an infection with coronavirus or another type of virus. She is a professor of medicine at Upstate who leads the Joslin Diabetes Center and is chief of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Upstate University Hospital. Weinstock is also the 2021 American Diabetes Association president, medicine and science.
