WEYMOUTH, Mass., Jan. 2 -- Twin brothers Aaron and Luke Hegenberger were born just eight minutes apart.
What makes their arrival unique is that they were born in different millennia.
Aaron was born at 11:53 p.m., Dec. 31, 2000; at the South Shore Hospital and his brother came along eight minutes later, at 12:01 a.m., Jan. 1, 2001.
"This is terrific," Dr. Robert Vanderlin, who delivered the twins, said in Tuesday's Boston Herald. "What you have is one born in each millennium."
The baboes came early for Debra Hegenberger of Pembroke, Mass., who with her husband John had not expected the births until early in February.
The mother, however, went into labor at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and delivered her first son as the clock approached midnight. Minutes later, after midnight, the second son was born. Both weighed just more than 4 pounds.
"We weren't looking at the clock," the mother said Monday, explaining she and her husband had planned to watch the New Year's Eve celebration on television. "When I got back to the room, I said, 'Geez, we mossed the ball dropping."
The parents said they don't know yet just how they'll celebrate the boys' birthdays.
"When they get older," the mother said, "We can stay up until midnight, watch the ball drop and do it all at once."NEWLN:
