IN LOVING MEMORY

David R. Dickens

Feb 04 1949 - Dec 27 2017

David R Dickens was born on February 4, 1949 to Maurice and Anne Dickens, of Denver, CO. He was the great-grandson of William H Dickens, a direct descendant of author, Charles Dickens. William H. was born onboard ship sailing from England, in 1842. He migrated to the St. Vrain Valley and settled the town of Longmont, CO.

David grew up in Littleton, CO and was a graduate of Arapahoe High School in 1967. He volunteered all his life and always wanted to help others in need. He became an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Arapahoe County Rescue Group. He married Paula Wilson in 1971 and they had a daughter Dana in 1977. After the marriage ended, David moved to Summit County CO where he worked in commercial security, and was a member of the local Dive Rescue Group & Sheriff’s Deputy Division. He met Debbie Scott in 1981. They moved to Houston, TX and were married on July 18, 1982.

In 1983 David and Debbie joined Friendswood Volunteer Fire Dept. where they later became paramedics. David and Debbie were also members of Lighthouse Charity Team in Friendswood, TX. David loved to prepare meals to raise funds for charitable organizations and those in need. It was nothing for him to serve 600 people a prime rib dinner and revel in how much they enjoyed it.

David started D Square Systems, Inc. in 1984. He sold the business in 2006 to Classic Protection Systems and he continued to work there until he retired in July 2015. Debbie retired the same year, they sold their home and moved into their motorhome full time. They had a great 2 1/2 years of vacation; traveling to the most wonderful destinations. They own an RV site overlooking the ocean in Newport, OR and one in Pottsboro, TX where they park on Debbie’s sister’s property.

David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debbie, his daughter Dana and her husband, Jason Sherman, their two daughters, Sophie and Maddie and his step son, D. J. Greenway. He leaves behind a brother, Phil of Littleton, CO, nieces, Stephanie and Krista, nephews, Sean and Brad and many cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rod.

David’s choice was to donate his organs and tissue to Life Gift of Houston, TX, an organization which offers hope to individuals needing transplants, and then be cremated.

There will be celebrations of life/memorial services in both Friendswood and Dallas in the springtime. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that you make a donation to Lighthouse Charity Team, 3502 FM 528, Friendswood, TX 77546 - 281.482.9400 or Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department, 1610 Whitaker, Friendswood, TX 77546 - 281.996.3360
