"Most songs either talk about being super in love or not in love anymore, and there's never an in-between."

It's a big day for Ingrid Andress. Friday (March 27) marks not only the release of the country music singer's debut album Lady Like, but also the premiere of her new music video for "The Stranger" — and Teen Vogue has the exclusive first look.

The ballad shows off Ingrid's beautiful vocals backed by an elegant piano melody. While writing the track, she wanted to weave in how unrealistic our generation's idea of romance tends to be. Throughout the music video, we're introduced to a number of couples who have been together for a variety of different lengths of time (along with a mother-daughter duo) who deeply stare into each other's eyes in order to really connect and display their true emotions.

"I used to wonder what being 'in love' actually meant, so I observed other people's relationships in order to try and understand it. I learned that love looks different for everyone and that being in a relationship doesn't just mean one thing all around," Ingrid tells Teen Vogue. "Most songs either talk about being super in love or not in love anymore, and there's never an in-between. I think being 'in-between' is normal and people should feel okay admitting that love isn't this super warm feeling you have all the time with someone."

What's also exciting to see in the music video is a few same-sex couples. That's particularly striking considering that country music hasn't always been the most inclusive world, even though there's been plenty of strides made over the past couple of years.

"It breaks my heart when anyone in the LGBTQ community doesn’t feel embraced and welcomed. I feel extremely lucky to have this kind of platform to help spread love and awareness," Ingrid says. "Hopefully videos like this will help move our genre forward and open up more doors for understanding it takes to encourage more inclusion. If country music represents what's happening in our country, then we should be including everyone in our songs and videos."

Ingrid Andress's new album Lady Like is now available for your listening pleasure, which she says has been like keeping a giant secret because she wrote some of the songs three years ago. And you can check out the music video for "The Stranger" below.
