TEAM BROWNSVILLE

Humanitarian Assistance for Asylum Seekers

Together we work to help asylum seekers who find themselves in Brownsville, Texas and those who are waiting in the Mexican cities of Matamoros and Reynosa.

Team Brownsville was founded in July 2018, by a small group of like minded educator volunteers. Since that time, our membership and our mission has expanded with the help of volunteers and donors from around the globe.

TEAM BROWNSVILLE AT A GLANCE

Team Brownsville volunteers help families and individuals legally seeking asylum in the United States.

The team adapts to the conditions on the ground and has offered a variety of programs in the last three years to assist asylum seekers.

We are focussed a dual mission: to continue supporting the asylum seeker community in the cities of Matamoros and Reynosa, Mexico and to welcome and support families released by US authorities into the United States at the Brownsville Bus Station.

We provide food, water, shelter, and basic necessities. We support a variety of legal, medical, and other services for this vulnerable population.

PROGRAMS

Corona Virus Update (COVID-19)

We currently need volunteers at the Bus Station in Brownsville, Texas. Given COVID restrictions we prefer local volunteers or those who can commit to a sustained presence and volunteer for at least a week. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact volunteer@teambrownsville.org and we can schedule opportunities for you to work.

ASSISTANCE AT THE BUS STATION

When asylum seekers are released from detention at the bus station, in Brownsville, our team greets them with a smile and whatever assistance they need to get to their destinations. Currently we receive around 200 people a day, welcoming them and supplying needed essentials.

ASSISTANCE IN MEXICO

The majority of asylum seekers who reach the US southern border are currently forced to wait in Mexico prior to being processed by immigration authorities. These people are vulnerable, hungry, and in need of shelter. We partner with like-minded teams in Mexico to provide humanitarian assistance.
