RoboCamps

About

At RoboCamps, elementary and middle school students, ages 8-14, have fun working hands-on to construct a competitive robot while learning and developing engineering and computer skills.

Over the course of a week, campers work in small groups to design, build, and program their own robot using materials from the VEX IQ Ecosystem. With the help of our counselors, campers develop and apply technical skills as well as teamwork and sportsmanship in a friendly competition.

Four sessions of RoboCamps are offered in total, with each week featuring a different game. Read further to learn more about the material being taught in each of these weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the four sessions?

All sessions follow the same structure and give campers access to the same resources, but each session has a different theme. Each game theme has different game pieces and objectives. Campers will strategize and design for robots that are unique to each session’s game. Since each session offers a new competition experience, we welcome campers to sign up for as many sessions as they would like to.

How will lunch work?

Campers will eat lunch outside if the weather permits, or in a designated dining area inside the building. Campers must bring their own lunches. Lunch will not be provided.

What should campers bring with them to camp?

Campers should bring a lunch, a water bottle, a mask (as desired), and an epipen/inhaler (as needed). If a camper needs any medication throughout the day, a parent and/or guardian must arrange for its administration. Counselors are not permitted to dispense medication. Campers can not self-medicate.

Who are the camp instructors?

The camp counselors will consist of student members and adult mentors from Team 4099. All instructors have mastery over the content they are teaching.

Who are RoboCamps meant for?

RoboCamps are meant for older elementary and middle school students who want to get started with robotics, design, and/or programming.

My child has no experience with robotics, or programming. Can they still participate?

Yes! Our camp is geared towards students of all experience levels. There are no specific prerequisites for any of the sessions.

My child is interested in attending RoboCamps, but cost is an issue.
