HCC and University Area CDC Program

The Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education (ICCE) at Hillsborough Community College stands ready to assist individuals of the University Area Invest Workforce program with training opportunities for in-demand career fields in the local Tampa Bay area.

INVEST Workforce: The goal of the University Area Invest Workforce program is to assist individuals/families by connecting and building knowledge of, and how to access, resources that will positively contribute to their personal long-term of self-sufficiency.

STEPS for Success®: STEPS for Success can help empower you to reach your goals such as gaining better employment through certifications, completing your GED, or learning English.

Financial Assistance: Individuals who are currently involved with INVEST Workforce and the STEPS® program, meeting with staff and working toward their self-sufficiency goals.

The following courses have been reviewed and approved by the University Area CDC leadership as certifications whereby individuals who are currently involved with INVEST Workforce and the STEPS® program can fast-track into meaningful and sustainable careers.

 

Courses Approved by the University Area CDC (UACDC)

Healthcare Certifications:

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with Home Health Aide – This programprovides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform basic care services for a patient (acute care setting) or resident (long-term care setting) or an individual in a home health setting. It prepares the student to function in the role of nursing assistant under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN). View the salary outlook for a CNA. Visit the Florida Board of Nursing website for information about becoming a CNA.
 
Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) – Prepare to work in hospitals, medical clinics, and labs performing blood draws and collecting/processing lab specimens. The Phlebotomy Technician course provides the hands-on experience and skills needed to perform these tasks through didactic hours, hands-on skills, and simulation training. The certification is an excellent addition to your healthcare training and experience. View the salary outlook for a Phlebotomy Technician. National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam voucher included.
 
EKG Technician (CET) – In this career you will administer and read EKGs in various healthcare settings. The course includes anatomy and physiology and disease processes that affect the heart, medications, Holter monitoring, 12-lead EKG, analyzing EKG readings, and much more. This certification is a great addition to add to your healthcare skills or a two-year BLS Healthcare Provider Certification is included in this course. View the salary outlook for a CET. Professional Certifications:
 
6-20 Accredited Claims Adjuster (ACA) – Successful completers of this 40-hour insurance industry focused course are exempt from the state exam for the 6-20 All Lines Accredited Claims Adjuster Designation course. This 40-hours ACA course is approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services. 40 hours must be completed to take the course exam and you MUST score a 70% or higher to pass the course.  Courses in the Registered Customer Service (4-40) course. Each course is taken in order. The final exam is on the last day of the last unit/course.
 
4-40 Registered Customer Service Representative (RCSR) – Successful completers of this 40-hour insurance industry focused course are exempt from the state exam for the 4-40 Registered Customer Service Representative. Our RCSR course is approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services. 40 hours must be completed to take the course exam and you MUST score a 70% or higher to pass the course.  Courses in the Registered Customer Service (4-40) course. Each course is taken in order. The final exam is on the last day of the last unit/course.
 
 

How to Enroll: 

  1. Contact your STEPS® Case Manager or the Workforce Manager 
  2. Once approved you will receive a signed education voucher. 
  3. Voucher covers between 90% – 100% of the course tuition for your approved course. Please speak with your Case Manager or Workforce Manager to determine if you will owe a portion of your course tuition. Not all items outside of the course will be covered. 
  4. Upload the voucher HERE. You will be contacted by email from HCC within 3 business days with the next steps to complete your registration. 

Please note: Your registration is not secure until either payment and/or a voucher has been received by HCC before the first day of the class. You will be required to pay any portion of tuition not covered by your voucher at the time of registration.
