All materials will be posted in the JOHS Counseling Schoology Group when available. Please listen to the information presented and read documents thoroughly so you are making an informed decision about your classes for next year.

Scholarships for Grades 9-10
There are many scholarships out there for students in Grades 9-10. Here is a list of those with upcoming deadlines. Take some time over break and apply for some of these scholarships.

MNPS Promising Scholars Registration
Registration for Promising Scholars is open! Promising Scholars will be June 1-June 30.
Each Promising Scholars site for rising K- 8th grade students will feature a mix of classroom learning; science, technology, and art activities; physical activity, and other fun experiences. High school students will participate in exciting and engaging experiences revolving around college and career readiness and ACT prep.
Credit recovery will also be available for high school students. Registration for credit recovery will open later in the spring.

Power Youth Nashville Summer Internships
Power Youth is an opportunity for students ages 14-19 to apply for paid summer internships (formerly called Opportunity Now) with a variety of partners around Davidson County. Click on the picture for more information and the application link.

Mayor's Youth Council
The Mayor's Youth Council is a group of high school students from across Nashville who work together to confront the most challenging issues impacting young people in our city.
What does it involve?
- Weekly meetings
- Organizing the Annual Mayor's Youth Summit
- Participating in events such as the MLK Day weekend and the spring Climate Summit
- Working with community [partners on initiative important to Nashville Youth

Homework Hotline
Free homework help and tutoring for students K to 12 is available from the Homework Hotline. It's a great resource and available Monday to Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 615-298-6636.
The Homework Hotline tutors K-12 Tennessee students in reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, Spanish, and more. High school students: we can help with calculus, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, and most other subjects—all taught by certified teachers. And best of all? We offer help in: English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Farsi.

Graduation Requirements
High school is very different from middle school when it comes to graduating and earning a diploma. You must take certain classes and pass them to earn credits to graduate. If you don't pass a class, you have to retake it or do credit recovery which takes up spots in your schedule for fun classes.
- English (4 credits)--English I, II, III, IV
- Math (4 credits; must take math each year)--Integrated Math I, Integrated Math 2, Integrated Math 3, and one additional course
- Science (3 credits)--Biology, Chemistry OR Physics, and one lab science
- Social Studies (3.5 credits)--World History/Geography, U.S. History, Personal Finance (0.5), Government (0.5), Economics (0.5)
- World Language (2 credits)--Must be SAME language
- Physical Education (0.5 credit)
- Lifetime Wellness (1 credit)
- Fine Art (1 credit)
- Academy Pathway/Elective Focus (3 credits in sequence)
- Other Electives (6 credits)
Total Credits Required for Graduation=28
Maximum Credits Students Can Earn=32
Other Graduation Requirements
- Must pass civics test with 70 or above
- Must take the ACT or SAT
