Silver Creek Weekly Newsletter
March 8-March 12
Dear SCMS Parents/Guardians
Spring is on its way. Remember to spring forward your clocks an hour next weekend. This week is a short week for our students. There is NO school for students tomorrow, Monday, March 8. On Tuesday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 10 there is Asynchronous learning for students. Please make sure students access their myMCPS classroom to work on their assigned tasks/assignments for each of their classes. Teachers will be planning for the reopening of school during these days.
As a reminder, this Friday, March 12 is an early release day. This is time for teachers to work on grading and reporting and to complete MP3 interims for students. We encourage students to use this week to complete any missing assignments/tasks in each of their classes as well as to attend check-ins on Friday during 8th period to ensure they are in good standing with their grades. We know this can be challenging for our kids and recognize that it takes substantial endurance. Our students are doing a wonderful job. Let's continue to encourage one another & keep up the great momentum.
Make it a great week Huskies!
Weekly Assignments
Modified Schedule this week: March 8-March 12
Please find the Adjusted Schedules based on half days, professional days, & holidays for 2nd semester linked below. We will be sure to communicate any changes to schedules, as needed.
Reopening of Schools for Partial In-Person Learning Updates
Please find MCPS information and resource videos about the Reopening Plan located HERE.
The phases for reopening are as follows:
March 15 Phase 1.1- Special education programs for 6th Grade students.
April 6- Phase 1.2- 6th grade students
April 19- Phase 2.1- 8th grade students
April 26- Phase 2.2- 7th grade students
In addition, Special Education programs for 7th and 8th grade students return April 6- Phase 1.2.
The last day to receive changes to preferences was Friday, February 26. We are now in a black out period and are no longer accepting preference changes during this period in order to finalize schedules. There were many families requesting changes to in-person learning. We have approximately 60-65% of our student population opting for in-person learning.
We will communicate student specific schedules to families of 6th grade students who have requested in-person learning no later than March 12. The letters will provide students' rotation, teacher schedule/room numbers, and other important logistics. We plan to send student specific schedules to families of 8th & 7th grade students the week of March 22. We understand that this is later than what was originally shared, but we need to prioritize our 6th grade schedule first based on updated changes. We greatly appreciate your patience as we work diligently to schedule an optimal learning experience for our students.
If you were not able to attend the community meeting for reopening, you can find the following below:
I know many of our parents & students might be feeling anxious about this process. Please know, we are working to the best of our ability to make this a safe return for our students and staff while providing students with a valuable learning experience. Please remain encouraged, hopeful, and strong. We will get through this together!
Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program
