Comet Connection
Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!
ADMIN UNIVERSE
We are beginning week 3, Day 11, of our Extended Online Learning and we are kicking off our Shuttle Spirit Week, which will end in our virtual Galactic Games this Friday, April 3!! Hopefully, lots of our amazing Comets will be able to join in on these fun online experiences and earn points for their Shuttles this week!!
As you know, our time participating in online learning has been extended until April 24th. It is more important than ever that we continue our parent-student-teacher partnership and work together to ensure our students get everything they need to be successful during this time!
Parents, please know that we are here to help in whatever capacity we can, so do not hesitate to reach out if you need some help academically, emotionally, or socially to support your child(ren). Last week, we made some recommendations to help make online learning work better, so you may want to check out last week's edition, if you want to see those suggestions again.
For our students, our expectations remain that they are:
- participating in class meetings via Google Meets (or whatever other platform your teacher uses),
- signing up for one-on-one conferences with your teachers,
- completing all assignments and assessments,
- turning in all the work that is assigned, and
- ASKING FOR HELP when needed.
We are going to be flexible and supportive throughout this online learning time. Do remember that all of this work will go towards our Q4 report cards, so keeping up is not optional!!
Reminder that SPRING BREAK is next week!! Although we realize that our staff and families will not be able to travel, we do hope that you will find creative ways to have a stay-cation and enjoy your time not doing online learning for the week (unless you are behind and can use that time to catch up). Our expectation for our staff is that they will 100% take the time from April 4-12 to disconnect, relax, and rejuvenate. What this means is, we have told them not to answer emails or get onto itsLearning during this time...they can reconnect at the end of Spring Break on Monday, April 13. We just wanted you to be aware that we have told our staff this, so if you think they are ignoring you, it is simply because we have told them to pay attention to their own social-emotional health and completely disconnect, just like we are recommending our students and families do. Thanks for understanding this!
Class Placement Info and KK Registration - UPDATED
Hard to believe that it's already the time of year when we gather information to place students in classrooms for next school year. We solicit a great deal of input from many different sources to assist us in this comprehensive process, including information from current homeroom teachers, speech and special ed teachers, and support teachers and counselors. In addition to that, we would love your input on the type of teacher/environment that would best suit each of your child's needs. Please click the link below for each student in your household that will be in grades 1-5 at Silver City for the 2020-21 school year.
Silver City Class Placement Request 20-21
NEW...Thank you for filling this out by Friday, April 17th (this is a 2-week extension) , so that we can begin working on class placements soon after Spring Break. Specific teacher requests or non-requests will not be accepted in any form.
If you have a rising Kindergarten student , we will gather information from you on them during our upcoming screenings on May 12. If you have an upcoming kindergarten student please sign up for a screening appointment using this Sign-up Genius.

We are still registering students using a virtual process and will use that for rising 2020-21 Kindergarten students. You can begin the registration process even without all of the required forms, but your child(ren) cannot start the first day of school until all of the forms are turned in. Any forms needed from a doctor can be turned in at a later day through the upload process.
