Silver Creek Weekly Newsletter
May 10-May 14
Dear SCMS Parents/Guardians
We look forward to another great week of school while welcoming back our cohort B students. As always, we are excited to keep up the great momentum that has been established with hybrid teaching and learning.
This is a 4 day week for students. Thursday, May 13 is a professional day for teachers to complete interims- there is NO school for students on Thursday, May 13. There will be no Wednesday virtual check-in day this week, so please encourage your child to take advantage of FSI in the morning (8:15-8:55 am) to receive support/complete any missing assignments.
I would like to take this time to wish our families a Happy Mother's Day! You are amazing!
Let’s make it a great week Huskies!
Hybrid Bell Schedule
This is a B week. Please find the Adjusted Hybrid Schedule here for the remainder of the school year. Please review the schedule in great detail.
**Please note: Students who attend in-person learning will come to the building Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday. There is NO school for students on Thursday, May 13 ( see schedule below).
Students who attend in-person learning, please review the Rotation Weeks here. Make sure students know the weeks they come for in-person learning.
In-Person Learning Updates/Reminders
We are so excited to have transitioned back all cohorts to school successfully. We look forward to seeing our B cohort students this week.
Reminders
Important information about Afternoon Dismissal- Dismissal will begin at 2:45 pm. Please follow the guidance of staff to drive up to the end of the building to avoid crowding of vehicles. Please make sure to wait in the queue towards the main entrance of the building. We prefer students not to walk across the parking lot to the lower lot to enter vehicles or to walk down the driveway to enter vehicles. For the safety and security of students, please drive up to the front entrance of the school so we can monitor students who are departing. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
Please see updated Information in regards to Wednesdays virtual, updated quarantine/isolation guidelines, and plans for the fall return to school located HERE.
COVID-19 Dashboard
The MCPS COVID-19 dashboard helps the community keep track of key health metrics and positive cases in our school communities. All school notification letters are posted on this webpage: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/dashboard/. The dashboard will be updated to display the cumulative number of positive cases reported for students and staff.
COVID Pool Testing at Silver Creek
Silver Creek Middle School began COVID Pool Testing on Friday, May 7, 2021. Testing will continue every Friday. Last week, we were able to have enough consent forms to pool test 3 different classes (we need at least 5 consent forms signed per class in order to test that particular class).
We must all do our part to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in our schools. This includes participating in school-provided COVID-19 testing to identify cases where the student or staff member may not be showing symptoms. MCPS families were notified about this new effort in February and March. Tests will be provided for all students and staff on a weekly basis. Each swab will be placed in a common tube for that classroom or group and sent to a central testing laboratory. The test detects whether the virus that causes COVID-19 is present in that pooled sample. Schools will receive results within 2-3 days and families will be notified of next steps if there is a positive case in the classroom or pool. Please read additional information here.
CONSENT: You must sign the following consent form to give permission for your child to participate. You can send in the consent form by doing one of the following:
- You can print the form, sign and have your child return to school.
- You can print the form, sign and take a picture of the consent form and email a copy to the attendance secretary at Rachel_Distelhorst@mcpsmd.org.
- You may use the following link https://kami.app/P26-gvU-28p to automatically make a copy and sign using Kami. You can save the document and then email the consent form to Ms. Rachel_Distelhorst@mcpsmd.org.
If you do not complete the consent form, your child will not be able to participate in testing.

8th Grade Promotion
As you know, the pandemic has made us rethink our engagement activities for 8th grade promotion. Please know that we want to make this a very special event for our 8th grade students. We are working in partnership with the PTSA to make this celebratory given the parameters from MCPS. We are currently waiting on guidance on the extent of this celebration for our 8th grade students. Information will be coming soon. We greatly appreciate your patience and partnership as we navigate this unprecedented time.
As a reminder, information was sent out to all 8th grade families in reference to a slide presentation for the 8th Grade Promotion to recognize our 8th grade students. In doing so, we would like a picture of your 8th grader. Please email a picture of your 8th grade child to Ms. Dinger at lorelei.dinger@mcpsmd.net no later than May 14th. If we do not receive a picture, we will use the picture your child uploaded for the yearbook.
