Clarksburg High School
Weekly Message 9/26/21
A message from Principal Edward Owusu
Good morning Clarksburg High School Families
This week will be a full 5 day school week at Clarksburg. On Tuesday and Thursday students will participate in our digital citizenship and mindfulness Advisory lessons. When we speak about digital citizenship we’re talking about how individuals interact and behave with the technology in their life. Being a good digital citizen means using technology appropriately, safely, intelligently, and ethically. It recognizes that we have both rights and responsibilities as digital citizens. Mindfulness will focus on breathing and reducing anxiety. Activities such as these ensure that all our students receive key messages from MCPS's Be Well 365.
The CHS tutoring club has begun! If students or your child need any help, in any subject, come to room 101, Mrs. Coe's room at lunch for free peer tutoring. Additionally, the CHS National Honor Society offers free peer to peer tutoring. Students may sign up for tutoring by completing a request form. (See NHS Tutoring Request Form)
Activity busses continue this Tuesday and Thursday after school. Busses depart Clarksburg at 4:30 pm. Please see the Activity Bus schedule on the Clarksburg Website.
Did you know that school provided breakfast and lunch are free to all students? As a reminder, CHS is a closed lunch campus. This means students may not depart school property during lunch, unless leaving school for the day. Additionally, students may not order food delivery to Clarksburg High School. The safety of all our students is of utmost priority.
In this newsletter you will find information about college and university visits to CHS, Homecoming Plans, PTSA News, MCAP Testing, and College Writing Workshop and more.
As always, thank you for your continued support and trust. Together we are Clarksburg!

For long term excused absences - five days or more - the teacher and student will work together to formulate a plan and may include a school counselor when needed.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be issued to all students during an in school homeroom, with the exception of the final report card which will be mailed home in June. During Remote Learning, Report Cards will be mailed home. If an "I" is placed on the report card for a marking period grade, it must be changed in the Counseling Office to the earned letter grade by the 10th school day after the report cards are issued for each marking period. Unchanged "I's" will be changed to "E's" on the 10th school day after report cards are issued if a grade change is not reported. This policy will affect a student's eligibility.
ASSIGNMENTS FOR ABSENCES
Students are encouraged to see their teacher if they are absent from class for under three days. Thank you for your continued efforts during the fall season to promote the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and program. Following are some reminders regarding vaccination requirements and program operations.
Vaccination Requirements
Student-Athletes
Beginning Monday, Nov. 15, the start of the winter sports season, all high school and eligible middle school student-athletes will be required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination prior to participation. This requirement applies to the winter and spring sports seasons, as well as all out-of-season activities conducted through MCPS Athletics. This requirement is supported by the COVID-19 Task Force for MCPS Athletics, which includes representation from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, along with multiple MCPS departments. This requirement also aligns with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
Coaches and Athletic Department Personnel
Consistent with MCPS requirements for staff members, coaches and athletic department personnel must submit proof of vaccination. All staff employed by MCPS must provide verification that they have received at least the first COVID-19 shot by Sept. 30, 2021, and verification of the second shot by Oct. 29, 2021, unless staff request an exemption based on a medical reason documented by a medical doctor. If a medical exemption is granted, the employee must submit to regular COVID-19 testing as required by MCPS.
Volunteer Coaches and Athletic Trainers
Beginning October 1, 2021, all volunteer coaches and athletic trainers will be required to complete an additional new module via their myMCPS Classroom/Canvas account called COVID-19 Vaccination Attestation in order to volunteer/serve within our school district. The new module will consist of a volunteer a) attesting to being fully vaccinated, b) uploading their Certificate of COVID19 Vaccination from the Maryland Department of Health, and c) agreeing to specific expectations of masking and social distancing while in MCPS facilities.
