Eagles' News from the Lake
Week of March 10th 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Lakewood Community,
Welcome to another enriching week at Lakewood! As we continue our journey through March, I am delighted to share some updates and reminders with our wonderful school community.
PTA Meeting Highlights:
Last week, our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) held a productive meeting where we discussed a variety of initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall school experience. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who participated and shared valuable insights. During the meeting, I shared our most recent academic and climate data at Lakewood. Here is a link to the presentation CLICK HERE that includes raw data from the scholar, staff, and community surveys that recently closed.
MCPS School Climate and Culture Survey:
MCPS is collecting critical feedback from students, parents/caregivers and staff through the School Climate and Culture Survey. This is an opportunity to share experiences and thoughts about school culture and academics. Responses will remain confidential and will help guide the school leadership team as they make decisions for the upcoming school year. The survey will be open through March 15. Click here to access and learn more about the survey.
Upcoming Events to Look Forward To:
Excitement is building as we look ahead to some fantastic events on the horizon. We encourage your active participation and attendance to make these moments even more memorable for our Lakewood community.
Pi Day 3/14/24 - 4th and 5th Grade teachers are planning mathematical fun on Pi Day.
There will be a School Improvement Plan meeting with central office staff for 20, March at 6:30 pm. Please use this link to sign up to attend.
We are looking forward to having our community members who have signed up for our walkthroughs. Please consider joining us on 3 April 2024. We would love to welcome you to Lakewood to see all the great teaching and learning happening, and the positive school climate. Please use this link to sign up.
The Pizza Bingo Night has also been rescheduled for Friday, 15 March 2024 at 6:30 pm. Thank you Mrs. Torrella for your hard work in rescheduling this event. Lakewood community, we need volunteers. Thank you in advance for your support.
Changes to Our Team:
Please join me in extending congratulations to Mr. Michael Long and Mrs. Barbara Noble, on their new positions at Lakewood. Mr. Long was previously serving as a substitute paraeducator and is now serving as a paraeducator in our LFI program. Mrs. Noble was previously serving as a paraeducator in our LFI program (and parent to a recent grad of Lakewood 🙂) and is now serving as our Media Assistant and Lunch/Recess Aide. Their enthusiasm and dedication are already making a positive impact on scholars, and we are thrilled to have them in their new capacities.
Celebrating Women's History Month:
In honor of Women's History Month, we are taking time to recognize the incredible contributions of women throughout history. Let's inspire our scholars with the wisdom of Maya Angelou, who once said, "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color."
A heartfelt thank you to each member of our Lakewood community for your partnership. Your support plays a crucial role in creating a nurturing environment for our scholars to thrive. Together, we continue to build a strong and supportive community focused on the success and well-being of every child.
As we embark on another week of learning and growth, let us continue to foster a culture of kindness, curiosity, and collaboration within our school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Levy - Acting Principal
Mrs. Khoury - Acting Assistant Principal

Planet Aid
Please donate your gently used clothing and shoes. You will see the yellow bin near our entrance to the parking lot. This is a positive way to contribute to the environment and community. Partnering with Planet Aid makes it all so easy! Lakewood earns 10 cents per pound and will use this money for scholars and staff. Planet Aid accepts clothing, shoes, and other textiles (for example, bedding, towels, and curtains). This means that there is no need to separate items based on their condition. Even items that are stained, torn, or frayed can be recycled, so drop off your worn-out items, too! The only articles of clothing we cannot accept are those that are dirty, wet, or moldy.Thank you in advance.
