Studentreasures Steps to Promotion
By now, scholars should be "Revising & Editing" their story and illustrations for the Studentreasures project. Please ensure that EVERY scholar have included ONE story to the classbook. Teachers should allow time during morning work for scholars to complete this task daily. Parents can also support the scholars at home by reading the story the scholars plan to submit to ensure spelling, grammar, and the appropriate punctuation marks are included. Review their illustrations to ensure they match the events of the story. Parents, please speak with your scholar's teachers to ensure that you have received a copy of the permission order form for this project. If you would like to order a copy of the classbook, now is the time as you will not have this option to do so once the books have been shipped to the school. I have included an image of the permission order form in this message to inquire about, if you have not already received and returned one. This form assures that all scholars receive a free copy of the book once permission has been granted by the parent/guardian.
September 20th – October 21st
§ Pre-write: Teachers and scholars will brainstorm the topic for the classbook and scholars will generate details of your story. Teachers & scholars can use the Circle Map to brainstorm and generate ideas.
October 24th – December 2nd
§ Rough Draft: Scholars will write their rough draft on notebook paper or in their AVID ELA notebook. Scholars will use the details generated in the Circle Map to expand their thinking about the topic. This will be a perfect time to incorporate the AVID 2-column notes to organize your ideas.
December 5th – February 17th
§ Revise & Edit: This is the time to improve the details of scholars’ writing. This is also the time to check your spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Scholars should be instructed to write sentences that flow smoothly and make sense to the reader.
February 27th – March 10th
§ Final Draft: This is the time for your scholars to write their final draft on the papers provided by Studentreasures. The final draft documents are located inside the kit that was provided to you.
March 13th – March 17th
§ Pack your kits up and prepare to have them shipped back to Studentreasures for publishing.

40,000,000 Words MyOn/AR Reading Challenge
We are very close to reaching our 40,000,000 reading challenge for the 2022-2023 school year. From August 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, our scholars have read 31,325,904 words. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! We only have 8,674,096 more words to read by the end of March 2023 to reach our goal. We can accomplish this by participating in the Read with Malcolm Read Bowl, which begins on January 9, 2023. We can also accomplish our goal by participating in the Read-A-Thon, which will end in 11 days. Encourage your scholars to get in the game and READ, READ, READ!!!
This year, we are challenging our scholars to read 40,000,000 words by the end of the school year. The purpose of this challenge is to increase their reading stamina, allow scholars to read books that are of interest to them, expose them to a plethora of vocabulary words, increase their reading fluency and comprehension, and have a love for reading.
The top class that reads the most words each month will earn a pizza party courtesy of Ms. Henderson.
Studentreasures Stallion Authors
The manuscripts will be sent to Studentreasures for publishing in March 2023. Scholars can receive a FREE copy of their classbook ONLY IF parents have completed the permission order form. If you would like to purchase a copy of the classbook, please complete the entire permission order form and return it to your scholar's teacher. Unfortunately, the company will not allow parents to purchase books after the books are returned to the school. Please contact your scholar's teacher to obtain a copy of the permission order form if you have not received one.
