The 2019 WCPS High School summer program is available to current high school students and students who will be attend a WCPS high school for the 2019-2020 school year. The summer program provides students with two options: traditional, classroom-based courses and blended courses that are taught with a combination of classroom-based and online instruction. There will be courses offered for original and repeat credit.
Overview: Traditional, classroom-based courses are offered at Washington County Technical High school. Students are required to attend daily. Students may earn one credit with this option. Students cannot take both a classroom-based course and a blended course. Students in the classroom-based program may submit a letter from a parent/guardian to request to miss up to one week (4 days) of instruction for a family vacation. If the student is making adequate progress in the course, the request will be approved and the student will be given the opportunity to complete the missed work within an acceptable time frame. Absences for family vacation must be approved in advance.
Blended courses are offered at Antietam Academy. Students must attend class the first three days of summer school (June 24, 25, and 26, 2019) to receive their initial instruction and set up their online course accounts. After that first week, students will attend class one day each week and receive the rest of their instruction and assignments online. The teacher will designate which day students must report to class, but Antietam Academy will be open every day during summer school and students enrolled in blended courses are welcome to come into the school to use the computers and access the internet to complete their online work. Students must successfully complete the online assignments by the end of the program to earn credit for the course. Students can complete repeat-credit courses before the end of the five weeks. If time allows, students can take a second repeat-credit. Students taking blended courses cannot participate in a traditional, classroom-based course, and students taking blended original credit courses can take only one course.
Original Credit courses are courses that a student is taking for the first time.
Repeat Credit courses are courses that a student has taken and failed and is taking again.
