Weekly Message 12/5/21
A message from Principal Edward Owusu
Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,
This week we kick off the Winter Athletics Season. Good luck to our Coyotes on the court, on the mat, on the track and of course in the pool!
The Student Government Association (SGA) is coordinating a Spirit Week beginning December 13th and they want student feedback on themes. Students, click here to vote on a theme.
The College and Career Readiness and College Completion Act (CCRCCA) requires all public high school students to take a college and career readiness assessment in English and Mathematics by the end of Grade 11. MCPS uses the SAT, ACT, and Accuplacer as the college and career readiness assessment under CCRCCA. At CHS we will be administering the Accuplacer, a requirement for admission to Montgomery College, to all Seniors who have not completed the college and career readiness assessment yet. The Accuplacer will be provided to Seniors on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 7:45 AM
Beginning Monday, December 6, 2021, we will accept applications for parking permits for the 2021-2022 Spring Semester. As a reminder, parking permits are a privilege, not a right. Parking is for SENIORS ONLY except for OJT and Internships. The Board of Education mandated fee of $37.50 per semester will remain in effect for the 2021-2022 school year. This fee is non-refundable and will be collected from each student when permits are issued. Applications are to be submitted to Mr. Patrick Bazemore, School Business Administrator, by no later than Monday, January 10, 2022. Applicants will be notified by phone or email if they will receive a permit by Friday, January 14, 2022. Please do not submit the fee with the application. Applications will be emailed on Monday.
Looking ahead, on Wednesday, December 15th a counselor will visit all English classrooms of 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to hand out materials and directions for course registration for the 2022-2023 academic year. Please stay tuned for more information.
In this newsletter you will find information about PSAT results and AP exams, NAACH Ball, CHS Media Center News, supporting CHStage, Winter Sports, Clothing Recycling, college and university visits to CHS, and more.

Door Dash, Grub Hub, and Other Food Deliveries
As a reminder, Students have limited options for lunch, including cafeteria served hot meals, which are free everyday, or to bring their own lunch. Delivery drivers are turned away at the school and when necessary, the food is confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.
All visitors to the school, even those attempting to deliver food, must use the main entrance only. Please discourage your students from attempting to have food delivered at other doors around the building. This creates a significant safety and security concern for your student and our school. Violations of this create a drain on resources and at times have caused such alarm that we have had to engage additional security and the police. Please help us continue to focus on the safety and security needs of the school by not ordering these meals to the school and by discouraging your child from ordering from a delivery service.

STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES & STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) publishes two documents that help students, parents, and staff and understand school rules and regulations; the expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules.
A Student’s Guide to Rights and Responsibilities is an overview of the rights and responsibilities students enjoy in MCPS and a summary of the laws and regulations that affect students.
The MCPS Student Code of Conduct provides an overview of discipline procedures and protocols and the range of consequences students could face for violating various policies, regulations, and rules. The guide also discusses the MCPS philosophy to discipline and defines the various disciplinary responses.
All MCPS families have received a copy of these documents. Students were provided copies in their English Classes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review this document with children so that our students understand their rights and responsibilities and the district’s expectations for student conduct. If you have questions, please speak to the Clarksburg Administration.
Ways To Report

Return to RAISE Communication 12.1.21
Please refer to the December 1 communication for the latest updates regarding MCPS Athletics. A Spanish version is also available. The updated Return to R.A.I.S.E. Plan is here. Major updates include:
- Winter Operations Plan – this plan will guide operations for the winter season. The internal operations document is here. The public-facing communication is here. Key components include:
- MCPS is committed to providing the safest, greatest experience possible for student-athletes, coaches and spectators.
- This plan is for the 2021-2022 Winter Season. The plan will be assessed prior to the 2022 Spring Season and throughout the season, as necessary.
- Spectators must wear face coverings/masks indoors at all times.
- Spectators are expected to demonstrate behaviors consistent with the R.A.I.S.E. core values of MCPS Athletics. Spectators who do not comply with MCPS expectations will be asked to leave the premises and may be banned from attending future events.
- Additional security resources and personnel will be employed to assist with game administration.
- MCPS will utilize GoFan digital ticketing to the extent possible during the winter season and will be offered for all events.
Additionally, with the transition to GoFan and to assist with managing game operations, the following modifications have been made to game admissions:
- MCPS will eliminate the $1 Child Ticket completely.
- All children 10 and under will be admitted free, with a paying adult.
- Middle school students must purchase a ticket and be accompanied by a paying adult.
- There will be one ticket price for MCPS events - $5 for all spectators 11 and older (cash price is $5/ticket, GoFan price is $4 plus $1 convenience fee).
- Indoor Mask Update – MCPS will continue to operate under the current guidance in the Return to R.A.I.S.E. plan. As previously shared, MCPS has submitted a request for an exemption to the Montgomery County Board of Health that would include that face coverings are not required indoors for student-athletes actively participating in activities, practices and contests; however, students who are not fully vaccinated (with approved medical exemptions) would be strongly encouraged to wear face coverings. Additionally, the exemption request includes that during competition, face coverings would not be required for coaches and officials who are fully vaccinated. This request will be reviewed by the Board of Health on December 7. Additional guidance will be provided following the meeting, which would take effect as soon as allowed (hopefully that evening for opening night).
- Indoor Track & Field Update – The Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex announced that the fieldhouse will be opening on December 15 for track and field activities. There will be restrictions in place, including limitations on the number of participating student-athletes and spectators. Updated information will be provided prior to the first meet, as necessary.
The latest information continues to be available on the COVID-19 Athletics Information webpage.
