College Scholarship Deadlines
- Keep in mind that some colleges require students to apply for admission and be accepted before getting access to their scholarship application if separate from the admissions application.
- Some colleges require a separate application and certain ACT scores for their most prestigious scholarships.
- The admissions application deadline may be earlier than the scholarship application deadline.
- The priority scholarship deadline for many TN colleges is November 1 or December 1.

All scholarship information is posted in the JOHS Counseling Schoology Group. We do not have information about every scholarship out there. Students will need to do their own research. The largest scholarships come from the colleges or technical schools themselves. Other scholarships can make up the difference in meeting your financial need.
The deadlines for scholarships are posted in the JOHS Counseling Schoology Group calendar. However, students should check JOHS Scholarship Connection regularly for updates.
The priority deadline for admissions and scholarships for most Tennessee colleges is November 1st and December 1st. Plan to complete those applications at least two weeks before the deadlines. The scholarships from community organizations are usually due in the spring.
The resource folders in the JOHS Counseling Schoology Group that are scholarship related are:
- General Scholarship Information Folder: scholarship search websites, list of scholarships by ABC and month due order, scholarship list for immigrants and undocumented students, scholarships for technical schools, college match scholarships, military ROTC scholarships, scholarships for military dependents, scholarships for students of color.
- Current Scholarships Folder: Scholarships are arranged by month due. Any new scholarships are added in this folder. Deadline dates are updated when available.
- Tennessee Promise and TN Lottery Scholarships: This folder contains information about Tennessee Promise and the other Tennessee scholarships like HOPE and Wilder-Naifeh.

Earn entries in monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships by completing steps to plan for life after high school. Every month, BigFuture will award hundreds of $500 scholarships and two $40,000 scholarships until February of your senior year. The scholarships awarded by BigFuture can be used at two and four year institutions.
- Students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year have more chances to earn scholarships.
- U.S. Citizenship is NOT required to earn the scholarship.

Tennessee Promise (Class of 2023)
Tennessee Promise is a last dollar scholarship that covers tuition at any Tennessee community college or Tennessee College of Applied Technology. There are no GPA or ACT requirements. Students must complete different steps by deadline dates to remain eligible. Even if you plan to attend a four year college, your situation may change. Apply for Tennessee Promise as a back up plan.
The first step in the process is to complete the Tennessee Promise application. Students must have a social security number and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident of the U.S. to apply. The deadline to complete the application is November 1.

November 2: Date you can start community service hours (8 hours)
January 19 at 2:35pm: Attend mandatory TN Promise Meeting (Cafeteria)
March 1: Deadline to complete 2023-2024 FAFSA
April 1: Deadline to submit community service hours if starting school in Summer 2023
July 3: Deadline to submit community service hours if starting school Fall 2023
UT Promise (Class of 2023)
UT-Promise is for use at UT-Knoxville, UT-Martin, UT-Chattanooga, UT-Southern, UT Health Science Campus (Memphis). It is a last dollar scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees.
Eligibility: Qualify for HOPE scholarship and have a family household income under $60,000

Academic Common Market
Reduced Tuition at Out-of-State Colleges for Certain Majors
Do you want to study a certain major, but no college in Tennessee offers the degree? Well, check out the Academic Common Market. Students can attend an out of state college who participates to earn a degree in that major at in-state tuition prices. The website explains what steps must be taken to receive the Academic Common Market tuition rates.
Examples of majors not offered in Tennessee but available through the Academic Common Market are: marine biology, metallurgical engineering, genetics, Arabic, arts administration, mining engineering, meteorology, equine administration, space systems engineering, landscape architecture, and more!

National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering Scholarships

Eligibility: To be eligible to be named for any of the NACME administered scholarships students must either be a high school senior applying to an engineering or computer science program at a NACME Partner Institution, or be currently matriculating in an engineering or computer science program at a NACME Partner Institution, a US citizen or permanent resident, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. NACME's mission is to increase representation of Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic-American and Native/American Indian in the fields of engineering and computer science. Minimum GPA 2.8.
