Seal of Biliteracy Testing - Seniors Only
Is your senior proficient in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in another language? If so, they may be a candidate of earning the Seal of Bilteracy. On December 2, 2021, we will be offering the required AVANT assessments to only seniors, which will determine their eligibility of earning the Seal of Biliteracy. Seniors can take the test free of charge and will learn more about the registration process in their English class. Juniors will be offered the opportunity to take the AVANT test in January and more details will be shared with the community as they become available. To learn more about the Seal of Bilteracy please refer to this FAQ document. If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Shira Pomeroy at Shira_K_Pomeroy@mcpsmd.org
Say Yes to the Test!
COVID-19 Testing Will Help Reduce Quarantine and Keep Students and Staff Safe
One significant mitigation tactic MCPS is using is random COVID-19 screening tests and rapid testing across grades. MCPS, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health, is offering COVID tests to students at no cost. Testing requires parent permission; one form provides consent for both tests.
Screening Testing: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends random asymptomatic COVID-19 testing because it detects and can limit the spread of the virus, even in the absence of visible symptoms.
Rapid Testing: Staff from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will determine whether a COVID-19 rapid test should be administered when a student presents to a health room with potential COVID-19 symptoms.
Parents/guardians only need to fill out one form to provide consent for both types of tests.

Want to connect with B-CC Alumni?
Good Afternoon, I have compiled a list of B-CC alumni who would be happy to connect with you via email to answer any questions you may have about their college, university, or program they are studying. This list will be updated as I connect with more alumni. You may find this especially helpful when you are making your final college decisions. Keep in mind that all of these students are still working hard in college and it may take a few days to reply to you. Please also be respectful with your questions. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much.

College Admissions Rep Visits
Teachers MUST approve your absence for you to attend these rep visits. It is the responsibility of each student to make-up any work you miss. To sign up for a rep visit, login to your Naviance account and on the homepage scroll halfway down to "What's New". If there is a school that you are interested in, click on more info.and click REGISTER. This registration will be your "pass" to show and get approval from your teacher. This year we have given admissions reps the option of doing their visit in person or virtually. All in person events, unless otherwise noted, will be held in the Career Center located in counseling. If the event is virtual you will need to bring your chromebook and headphones to the career center to view. If it is a virtual visit during lunch you are free to login to your chromebook wherever you are comfortable. As always, please email me if you have any questions.

Quarantine Instructional Program
In summary, when a student is required to quarantine they will continue to access their classroom materials via myMCPS classroom (Canvas) and have ZOOM access to their teacher at identified times each day for support.
NOTE: Students receiving quarantine instruction will not be receiving simultaneous instruction and will not be zooming live into their regularly scheduled classes.
Lunch at B-CC
Chromebooks and Personal Devices
Students are now required to bring their chromebooks to school everyday. This is so that the students will be able to fully participate in the various classroom activities designed by their teachers. In addition, as we prepare for the various standardized computer-based tests within the next month (such as MAP or MCAP Tests), it is important the students are well equipped with the technology needed to be an active participant in testing.
Students can retrieve a Chromebook from the media center during the following times:
7AM - 7:40AM
Lunch
2:30PM - 3:00 PM
NOTE: Students who opt to use a personal device may experience network connectivity issues. Technical support for personal devices is not provided.
School Meals
MCPS will continue to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to all students in schools and at designated food distribution sites. It is recommended that families still complete the 2021-2022 FARMS application that is now available online. Here is the link: www.MySchoolApps.com. If you need assistance completing the online form, please contact your student’s counselor.

Emergency Forms and Contact Information
Student Emergency Information should be updated through ParentVUE. Each year parents/guardians are required to complete the Annual Verification of Information through the Online Registration portal (in the right corner of your ParentVUE home screen). We highly recommend that you complete this as soon as possible. It is critically important that we have accurate parent contact information on file with the school and system as soon as possible.
Here are links to the ParentVUE Support Guide and directions for completing the annual verification of information.
