Midway Mustang Memo
October/November 2022
Dear Midway Families,
We have wrapped up our first quarter of the school year and we are so appreciative to you for your partnership. It has been such a busy time as students are hard at work learning and growing each day. Thank you to our teachers for providing engaging lessons and support for our students daily. Parents, we hope you were able to meet with your child and their teacher to hear about the learning goals your students have set for themselves as well as the progress they are making toward those goals and how you may assist from home.
We want to give a big thank you to our wonderful PTO. They work so hard to support all stakeholders at Midway. The PTO sponsored Fundraiser & Day of Awesomeness were a huge success!! Thank you to all who supported their fundraising efforts. The funds raised will go directly toward providing items and experiences to enhance student learning. During Fall Break, they had the sunshade installed on the playground. They planned and hosted an incredible Fall Festival for all to enjoy! In addition, they have planned many upcoming events including Spirit Night at Grub Burger & Movie Night. We look forward to spending time with all our Mustangs at these special events.
As always, thank you for sharing your precious children with us! We are truly grateful for your partnership. Please let us know if you need anything at all.
Kind regards,
Daphne Rogers, Principal
Jennifer Brown, Assistant Principal
Davis Barlow, Assistant Administrator

Begin with the End in Mind – Habit #2
During the month of October, Midway students have learned more about making a plan and what matters most. Planning helps you be in control of your life. Leaders plan weekly so their Big Rocks get scheduled first.
Habit 2 teaches that along with having clear goals, you need to make a plan.

From the Literacy Coach
Greetings, Parents, and Happy Fall!
Fall is such an exciting time of year for so many reasons, and it's the perfect time to "fall into" a great new book or series!
We are off to a fabulous start with reader engagement. All students have met with their teacher for an initial leveling conference. By this point, your child should have a power goal they are working on with their just-right, color-level book.
Be sure to ask them about the power goal they are practicing and how they are practicing it. This is a wonderful way to engage in conversation about the one skill your child needs to practice to become an even better reader.
Students should continue reading 2 steps at home every weekday (30 minutes total) and writing those 2 titles in their reading log. Weekends count too! Students should be reading 15 minutes for each weekend day.
Want additional practice to help your child with their power goal? Ask your child if they have a Skills Card. Both myself and teachers are happy to provide one to support both of you.
Happy Reading!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Midway Family. We have a lot of information to share in this month’s newsletter. Don’t forget to mark your calendars!
October 24th-28th - Red Ribbon Week
What is Red Ribbon Week? Red Ribbon Week is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Midway students demonstrated their personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23 - 31st. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign® is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a drug-free America. Each year we have a special theme and activities to promote being drug free. This year’s theme was Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free!

News from Nurse Berry
I hope everyone enjoyed Fall Break. Prior to break, all 1st, 3rd and 5th graders were screened for hearing and vision. If your child was absent, they will be screened after fall break. If your child did not pass, a letter was sent home either in their folder or mailed. If you have any questions regarding the testing, please reach out to me. In addition, if your child was flagged with a medical condition, such as asthma or food/insect allergy, I have reached out via email and sent copies of the care plans that need to be completed for 2022/2023 school year. These forms need to be completed by your physician and returned to the clinic in order for me to be able to care for your child during the school day.
As always, If your student has vomited, had diarrhea, or has had a temperature greater than 100.4 F they must stay home for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Allow enough time for persistent coughs to improve as well. Please report any contagious illness to the nurse (Covid 19, Flu, Strep Throat, Pink Eye etc. ) Rest assured that all information is kept confidential. If multiple cases are reported within a short time period within the same class, parents are notified of the situation without any personal information released. Please visit nurse page on the school website for useful information on when to keep your child home or you can always reach out to me with any questions.
Please remember that all parents/guardians must bring medication to the clinic. This includes over the counter medication like cough drops etc. The clinic is more than happy to keep medication that will alleviate symptoms for a student so they can remain in class comfortably and avoid phone calls home.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
