FAFSA Application for 2023-2024 is now open!
It was so nice to see our Rock Ridge students and families taking advantage of the FAFSA workshop at Briar Woods. As you know The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2023-2024 academic year (make sure you select that academic year on the form!)
IMPORTANT FIRST STEP- students must create their own FSA ID and parents (only 1 parent needed) must create their own. FSA ID is a secured electronic signature. Here is a video on how to create it.

Seniors - if you haven't scheduled your appointment yet, please do as soon as possible.
Mandatory Senior Advisement Meeting: Students may now schedule their mandatory Senior Advisement Meeting with their assigned School Counselor. Meetings will run from September 7th-October 14th. NAVIANCE and Common App issues - resolved!
We have worked with Naviance to resolve the Common App issues some of you were experiencing when trying to submit your applications in Common App. To resolve this you will need to Common App Match. The instructions are in the video link below. If you have created a Common App account you can skip in the video to minute 2:15. This will walk you through the process. We will need all seniors to Common App Match.

There is a scholarship portion of it and the application deadline is October 14. You must be present at the expo to receive your scholarship if selected. Students are responsible for their own transportation. Free registration and lunch is included.

University of the Arts is the a 145 years institution. Established in 1876, the university was formed by the merging of two century-old institutions: Philadelphia College of Art and Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts. After being granted university status in 1987, the University of the Arts became the largest institution of its kind in the nation, offering programs in design, fine arts, media arts, crafts, music, dance, theater and writing.
The University of the Arts provides pre-college provides enrichment opportunities in visual arts, performing arts and creative writing for students in grades 9–12 through programs that foster exploration and embolden students to think creatively and work collaboratively.

This is a 8 weeks summer program for rising 10th through 12th graders.

FREE NASA OPPORTUNITIES FOR VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!
Applications are now open for the following:
- The Virginia Space Coast Scholars (VSCS) focuses on the current missions at Wallops - Deadline is October 16, 2022.
- The Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) focuses on human spaceflight. Deadline is October 24, 2022.
- The Virginia Earth System Science Scholars (VESSS) focuses on the Earth's responses to climate changes, weather, and natural hazards. Deadline is October 24, 2022.
SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS - 2023 Governor's School Info Session
Our representative will be talking to our Sophomores and Juniors on October 13 at 3:25pm. Student must register on Naviance to obtain a hall pass.
The Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools are approximately four weeks long and are held each summer on various college and university campuses throughout Virginia. The Governor’s Schools offer students a unique opportunity to work and study not only with other students with similar talents and interests, but also with mentors, professors, scientists, and other professionals in their field of interest.

The representative of VA FAME program and a Rock Ridge alum will be visiting RRHS to talk to our students on October 21 at 1:45pm. Please, register on Naviance.
Juniors & Seniors - JOB FOR A DAY - SAVE THE DATE
This program lets you shadow a professional and learn more about a career you are considering. Due to the volume of experiences, Inova Loudoun Hospital will be offering experiences on 11/9 and 11/10. Please only choose one of those INOVA Loudoun dates if you are interested in exploring health and medical sciences! More info to come. (Check video below)

15 Myths about the FAFSA process (continuation from last week)
Myth #7: I should not fill out the FAFSA® form until I’m accepted to school.
FACT: That’s another widespread FAFSA® misconception. Do it as soon as possible. To receive your information, the FAFSA form requires you to list at least one school, but you should list any schools you’re thinking about, even if you haven’t applied or been accepted. And don’t worry―schools can see only their own information; they will not be able to see other schools on your FAFSA form. >>> Read the next 14 myths
Want to study abroad in High School? There is a scholarship for that!
U.S. Department of State offers merit-based fully funded study opportunities for American HS Students to study abroad. Students live with host families and engage in local school. Previous language knowledge is not required for most programs.
