Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,
Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Originally established during the Civil War, Memorial Day honors those who have died in military service for the U.S. Giving their ultimate sacrifice in honor of their country. Thank you to all who serve. Memorial Day has also meant the unofficial start to Summer, however there are still a few weeks left so let's all hang in there.
This week Wednesday, there will be an APPS Induction Ceremony for incoming Grade 9 students. Counselors will meet with ALL Juniors in the Class of 2023 on Thursday to provide students with the Senior Packet to prepare for their final year in high school and beyond. The packet includes how to request recommendations from teachers, the college and career timeline, and more.
Seniors and senior families should remember that this Friday, June 3, all seniors planning to participate in Commencement should plan on attending rehearsal on Friday beginning at 8:45 am. Seniors should gather in the cafeteria. This practice is MANDATORY for all seniors planning to attend the Commencement ceremony at Mount St. Mary’s University. You must remain at this practice for the entire time! Complimentary Senior Picnic will be provided for the seniors by the PTSA following rehearsal at approximately 10:45 am in the Coyote Canyon.
Following the practice, all seniors will receive their caps, tassel, gowns, and tickets for graduation. Students have the option to attend elementary school clap out's for them. They should wear their cap and gowns. Please check the fit of your gown immediately upon receipt.(See tips on how to get wrinkles out of a graduation gown.)
Graduation is Monday, June 6. There will NOT be school at Clarksburg High School on Monday, June 6 as staff will be attending the Commencement Ceremony. The Class of 2022 Commencement will be livestreamed via this link: https://youtu.be/AcO_rr_GXnA

NEWSFLASH: All SSL forms documenting service completed this school year must be submitted to Mrs. Coe by the systemwide required deadline of June 3, 2022. Any unsubmitted SSL forms for service completed since June 1, 2019, will be accepted until June 3, 2022. Please note that after the 2021-2022 school year, SSL forms will no longer be accepted from previous school years.

Payments for AP Exam
Attention AP Students,
Please check to make sure all AP balances for your AP exam(s) are paid. The total cost of all AP exams for the 21-22 school year was $96.00.
Please consult this list to determine if you still owe and how much. Your balance you need to pay is highlighted in yellow. If you don't see your ID than your balance is paid in full. Payments can be made online by debit or credit card using this link. Check and cash payments will be received in Room 157 before school and during lunch.

There Are Three Weeks Left for Students to Apply for National Recognition
Students who have a 3.5 GPA or higher, took the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, or AP® Exams, and identify as African American, Hispanic, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural or small town may be eligible for National Recognition. They must identify with at least one of the four groups listed to be eligible.
If you know a student who didn't receive an invitation but meets the full eligibility criteria listed on our website, please encourage them to self-nominate.
Your student(s) have been invited to apply for at least one of the following awards:
• National African American Recognition Award
• National Hispanic Recognition Award
• National Indigenous Recognition Award
• National Rural and Small Town Recognition Award
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 15, at 8 p.m. ET. There's no application fee. The deadline won't be extended, so please encourage your student(s) to apply as soon as possible.

Girls Talk Math
Girls Talk Math is (FINALLY) back in-person in 2022! Camp will now run July 11 - July 22 on weekdays, from 9 am to 4 pm each day. Rising-9th to rising-12th grade students who attend high school within commuting distance of the University can apply.
Camp activities involve learning mathematics outside of the standard curriculum, attending mini-lectures on math, as well as recording and publishing a podcast about a famous female mathematician. Additionally, there will be special events such as panels and interviews with women mathematicians.
Girls Talk Math at UMD is a sister chapter of the Girls Talk Math program at UNC Chapel Hill.

Your Story Matters
MCPS is hosting mental health and wellbeing forums called Your Story Matters!
As you are aware, the inaugural forum will be hosted onsite at Seneca Valley High School, on Tuesday, May 31, at 6:15 pm. Similar to the district listening sessions facilitated by Dr. McKnight earlier this spring, our aim is to hear from the community about the specific needs of their children in the area of mental health and wellbeing support. In addition, we are fortunate to have local agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services who are committed to partnering with us to strategically share targeted resources that may benefit families. After the listening session, families will be able to engage with our staff in smaller, focused spaces. Our ultimate goal is to hear from the community as a means to inform innovative next steps, and to increase access to the resources and services we currently provide. GB Youth Media - SSL Opportunity
GBY Youth Media is hosting a Summer Media After-School Program with free summer SSL Hours film classes. The session will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, June 20-August 11. Special Education Summit
The 8th annual Special Education Summit will be held on June 4, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The keynote speaker is Dr. Patricia Crain de Galarce, Director of the Center for Inclusive and Special Education at the Lesley University Graduate School of Education. There will be breakout sessions on Understanding Dyslexia, Cooperation Strategies, De-escalation Strategies, Pre-K Literacy, and lots more. Summer School at CHS and Regional MCPS Summer School
CHS LOCAL Summer School
Clarksburg HS Families,
The CHS Local Summer Programs website (bit.ly/summerchs2022) provides an overview of the courses and programs being offered this summer. Clarksburg High School will offer a variety of LOCAL programs, including both credit-bearing courses and enrichment experiences. The goal of our courses is to maximize student engagement during the summer months, mitigate learning loss, and offer engaging opportunities that are of interest to our students.
Credit-bearing Courses will run in two summer sessions:
Session 1: June 29 - July 19 (3 weeks)
Session 2: July 20 - August 8 (3 weeks)
Please see the website above for the daily schedule on which courses will run. CHS summer courses and enrichment programs are FREE opportunities for all students.
Students who need to apply for original credit (first time taking a course) should work with their CHS Counselor to apply using the MCPS virtual summer school page. Please see the message on Page 2 of this memo for MCPS CENTRAL Summer School information.
Credit Recovery
Counselors will reach out to students who are eligible for credit recovery at the end of Quarter 4. Students who are working on credit recovery courses over the summer will attend in person each day to work with CHS staff, complete their work, and earn credit for their class(es). Students may complete their courses at their own pace and stop attending once complete; however, attendance is required up to that point.
ESOL Courses
CHS will be offering English 9 & English 10 for ESOL students. Students may take these courses for either credit recovery or original credit.
CHS Boost & Enrichment Courses Registration
Students who wish to attend Clarksburg High School Summer Enrichment programs must please register no later than June 10, 2021. Our course offerings are contingent on student enrollment. Students will be contacted by June 17, 2021 with final course enrollment and specific course information.
If your student has an individualized education plan (IEP), 504 plan, or receives ESOL support please indicate that on the Google Registration form.

Clarksburg HS Families, CENTRAL Summer School
The 2022 Central High School Summer Program (CHSSP) has a range of blended (synchronous and asynchronous) offerings, including core courses, Career Technology Education, Health Education, World Language, and Fine Arts. Students can take a course for grade replacement, grade improvement, or in some instances, original credit. Please note that students taking summer courses to replace a failing grade, or planning to graduate in the summer of 2022, will take precedence over students who have already earned credit in the courses for which they register. Registration for CENTRAL summer programs is NOW OPEN and will occur via ParentVUE . More information can be found HERE. Directions on how to register in ParentVUE can be found HERE or HERE.
There will be two summer sessions:
Session 1: June 29 - July 19 (3 weeks)
Session 2: July 20 - August 9 (3 weeks)
Courses offered via CENTRAL summer programs include English, Science, Math, Social Studies, World Languages, Health, Fine Arts, ESOL, and Technology. CTE courses are offered via Seneca Valley and Thomas Edison only. A full course list with times in which the course occurs can be viewed HERE. Families should reach out to their child’s counselor to determine what courses students should register for as well as creating a ParentVUE account.
Please note the following:
Semester A courses are only offered during session 1 and semester B courses are only offered during session 2.
Honors Health Education A will be offered in both session 1 and session 2.
Students must attend ALL mandatory webinars to earn credit for their course(s).
For each half-credit course, students are required to participate in eight (8) webinars during the session (see THIS site for dates).
¹ For each half-credit course, students will have the choice of an early offering or a late offering and are required to attend the live webinars at the same time for the duration of the session.
Example: A student chooses Algebra 2A in session 1 for the early time slot (June 29-July 19, live webinars on Mon, Wed, Fri from 10:30am-11:45am). The student must attend the live webinars at the same time each Mon, Wed, Fri for the duration of session 1.
Teachers will provide live support sessions on all non-instructional week days (see table below for dates) to allow students the opportunity to access additional support. While these support sessions are not required, and students may attend as needed, teachers may ask students to attend at various times throughout the session in order to support student learning.
In addition to the virtual support provided by classroom teachers, in-person, content-specific support teachers will be available at two regional sites: Seneca Valley HS and Wheaton/Edison HS. Regional support sites will be open from 10:30am until 6:30pm on the dates in the table below (see THIS site for dates).
Door Dash, Grub Hub, and Other Food Deliveries
As a reminder, Students have limited options for lunch, including cafeteria served hot meals, which are free everyday, or to bring their own lunch. Delivery drivers are turned away at the school and when necessary, the food is confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.
All visitors to the school, even those attempting to deliver food, must use the main entrance only. Please discourage your students from attempting to have food delivered at other doors around the building. This creates a significant safety and security concern for your student and our school. Violations of this create a drain on resources and at times have caused such alarm that we have had to engage additional security and the police. Please help us continue to focus on the safety and security needs of the school by not ordering these meals to the school and by discouraging your child from ordering from a delivery service.
Important Reminders from our Attendance Office
Please review these important attendance reminders:
- If a student is late to school for any reason they must stop by the attendance office to sign in. This also applies if a student needs to sign out early with parent permission or parent pick up. An accurate sign-in/out time must be recorded in the system. (Please note: If a student does not stop by the attendance office then anything that the student is marked absent for will stay in the system).
- Please make sure whoever is signing the student out is on their emergency pick-up contact list in Parent VUE & is at least 21 years of age.
- Any notice sent for a student to sign out early must be submitted in writing.
Also, please remember that all parents/guardians and visitors are required to show ID upon entering our building.

STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES & STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) publishes two documents that help students, parents, and staff and understand school rules and regulations; the expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules.
A Student’s Guide to Rights and Responsibilities is an overview of the rights and responsibilities students enjoy in MCPS and a summary of the laws and regulations that affect students.
The MCPS Student Code of Conduct provides an overview of discipline procedures and protocols and the range of consequences students could face for violating various policies, regulations, and rules. The guide also discusses the MCPS philosophy to discipline and defines the various disciplinary responses.
All MCPS families have received a copy of these documents. Students were provided copies in their English Classes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review this document with children so that our students understand their rights and responsibilities and the district’s expectations for student conduct. If you have questions, please speak to the Clarksburg Administration.

Bullying, harassment (including sexual misconduct and sexual harassment), intimidation, hazing, incidents of hate-bias, and concerning issues involving student gender identity are not tolerated in MCPS. We are committed to ensuring our students feel safe, valued, and respected in our schools. Please see the multiple ways you can file a report below.
