Meet Valerie Saunders

Founder & Principal Designer

I'm an unapologetic dreamer, a devoted connoisseur of champagne, and a perpetual romantic. I navigate life with an unwavering commitment to living it to its fullest potential. My world revolves around a profound appreciation for all things beautiful, and am captivated by the details of both grand gestures and subtle nuances. Each moment is an opportunity to uncover beauty in unexpected places, and when my heart falls for something, it's an all-encompassing affection. I’m crazy about unique boutiques, and imagine that I’m in the south of France when I need an escape. My greatest passion in life is being trusted with the personal, sacred honor of helping my clients construct their beloved family homes.

“Love all things beautiful both inner and outer, it makes life a bit more romantic”

Valerie’s Design Philosophy

Beneath it all, I pour my whole heart into my designs, fueled by an unshakable love for my craft. I firmly believe that graceful, elegant living should be accessible to all. My design ethos is characterized by the delicate interplay of muted tones, layered textures, and subtle contrasts, striking a soft balance and making every space feel unique to each client.

Our Lovely Team

We have an exceptionally talented team, abounding with creativity and professionalism. Every person at Sérendipité shares a passion and keen ability to transform your vision of home into a beautiful reality.

Melissa Cameron

Melissa carried her childhood love for art and design to San Diego State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design before serendipitously joining the team in 2012 as an Assistant Interior Designer. Creativity fuels many of her favorite tasks like scouting textiles or planning a beautiful tile layout. With a coastal-casual approach layered with classic influences, she finds the most joy in witnessing clients' emotions as they step into their newly finished homes. Melissa draws inspiration from her many travels, having lived all across the world from San Diego to Switzerland. As a devoted dog lover, the rest of her downtime centers around her German Shorthaired Pointer, Tucker.

SENIOR LEAD DESIGNER

Kate Matchett

Kate's passion for interior design was sparked at an early age, assisting her parents with home renovations. She pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design at California State University Long Beach. She joined Sérendipité as an intern in 2015, eventually becoming an Assistant Interior Designer post-graduation. Kate thrives on the diversity of her role, from construction documents to on-site collaboration with contractors, all leading up to the exciting final reveal of completed designs. Beyond her design career, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband and baby boy, making the most of road trips, hikes, beach days, and family gatherings.

SENIOR DESIGNER

Olivia Volf

Olivia's passion for design started during her childhood in Montreal, devouring design shows and books, using her parents' home as her training grounds. Olivia earned her Interior Design degree in 2013 from Lasalle College. Shortly after, she and her husband moved to Nashville, marking the beginning of her design career at Landy Gardner Interiors. Here, Olivia mastered project coordination, contractor communication, and the art of furniture and accessory selection. In 2019 she joined the Sérendipité team where she thrives in each design aspect, from finishes to furnishings. During her free time, she loves discovering new dining spots and coffee shops. Fluent in Czech and French and a traveler at heart, she enjoys frequent tips to visit family in Prague and the Czech Republic.

SENIOR DESIGNER

Marissa Harris

In 2022, Marissa found her way to Sérendipité, bringing with her a joyful energy and creative spark. Coming from Tustin, Orange County, Marissa holds a bachelor's degree in Interior Design with a specialized certification in Kitchen and Bath. Although adept at designing across a broad range, her personal design style gravitates toward Spanish Modern Revival with mid-century modern influences. Beyond her work, she's a travel enthusiast, enjoying Duffy Boat rides and sipping Dr. Pepper or Rombauer Chardonnay while listening to Classic Rock. Her heart belongs to her German Shepherd, Neeka, and she dreams of her own Modern Spanish Revival home.

SENIOR DESIGNER

And We Can’t Forget About Guapo

Although he has no formal education or training in project management, Guapo is an excellent and incomparable Sérendipité team member (even though he has been caught napping under the conference table occasionally). He has been with the company since December 2015.

Guapo’s strengths include: always being in a good mood, being enthusiastic to see every employee on the Sérendipité team, chasing seagulls from job sites, being extremely loyal, lovable and cute!
