Emily Carris-Duncan and Colin Pezzano

Distant Memory is a pop-up window exhibition on Philadelphia’s historic Fabric Row. Viewed from the sidewalk, these historic storefront window installations by Philadelphia-based artists Emily Carris-Duncan and Colin Pezzano challenge our notions of personal and collective memory. Both confronting and healing historic cultural wounds, Distant Memory makes art accessible during COVID-19 social distancing.

Carris-Duncan’s installation centers on Wisdom, an improvised geometric quilt using naturally dyed silks.

We’ve Never Met, an installation of carved wood sculptures, invites us to consider the relationship between memory and everyday objects.

Distant Memory will be installed in the windows at 703 S. 4th Street in Philadelphia from September 1 – October 31, 2020. Please note that there is no interior access. For information on other things to do in the neighborhood, visit the South Street Headhouse District website.

Distant Memory is curated by Zindzi Harley. Special thanks to Joel Spivak.
