Talk about a TikTok triumph.

Chari D’Amelio made history Sunday by becoming the first TikTok user to reach 100 million followers on the video-sharing social media app.

“Thank you guys so, so, so much,” D’Amelio, 16, said in a video celebrating the milestone. “I cannot believe that there’s 100 million supporters following me right now. That is insane.”

D’Amelio — who is from Norwalk, Conn. — joined TikTok in 2019 and has since earned a massive following on the app through her viral lip-sync and dance videos. Her videos have accumulated more than 7.9 billion likes combined.

She found herself in the midst of controversy last week after she appeared in a video expressing her desire to reach 100 million followers exactly one year to the day of hitting 1 million followers in 2019. She and her sister, Dixie, also made jokes about their meal, which was prepared by a private chef, because it had snails in it.

Some followers were critical of the video and accused the TikTok star of acting entitled. D’Amelio was moved to tears over some of the nasty comments she received.

“I don’t even know if I want to do this anymore,” she said in an Instagram Live video at the time. “This is messed-up stuff that people are saying. Like, people telling me to hang myself. People just blatantly disrespecting the fact that I’m still a human being is not OK at all.”

Dixie D’Amelio, 19, has more than 44 million TikTok followers.
