JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 10th Annual National School Choice week (NSCW) has been set for Sunday, January 26th through Saturday, February 1st.

The goal of NSCW is to raise awareness of the K-12 education options available for families in communities all across the country.

Andrew Campanella is the president of National School Choice Week. He says the week is held every January with the goal of empowering parents to choose schools for their children during the best time of the year to start the process of selecting a school.

Campanella says parents are encouraged to think about their children’s needs, talents, quirks, and more. From there, make a list of schools, visit them, ask questions, and narrow the list down.

Numerous school’s have registered for National School Choice Week in North Dakota, with some schools participating locally. They include Hillcrest SDA Elementary School and Pingree-Buchanan High School.

Campanella says even if a school hasn’t registered, they’re more than welcome to participate in the week in a variety of ways.

Throughout North Dakota, 68 events and activities will raise awareness about educational opportunity. These schools and activities join more than 50,000 across the nation.

Gov. Doug Burgum has proclaimed Jan. 26-Feb. 1 to be School Choice Week in North Dakota. The governor joins hundreds of city and county officials, as well as more than a dozen governors who have issued similar official proclamations for National School Choice Week 2020.
