Local Church Destroyed In Fire; Pastor Says They Will Continue Feeding Homeless

A southwest Oklahoma City church was devastated by a fire early Monday morning and now, the congregation is picking up the pieces.

"We're coming back, we're gonna be stronger," Pastor Marty Alvarado at the God of No Limits Church, said. "Our reach is gonna be farther."

"Oh my seeing the flames from a mile away coming here at five something," he said. "It was heart wrenching."

The church was declared a total loss after the three-alarm fire ripped through the building. The only thing left unscathed was a portrait of Jesus hanging on a wall inside.

"All I could think of was how do we continue?" Pastor Marty said. "How do we reach the people we need to reach?"

Pastor Marty and his congregation are passionate about helping people experiencing homelessness in the area.

"We call them our neighbors," Pastor Marty said.

"We've been able to give out 130,000 meals out of that kitchen in the last 8 years," the director of the God of No Limits Meal Program, Rebecca Gordon, said. "I'm sorry, when I saw this on the news this morning all I could think is how are my neighbors going to eat tomorrow?"

The church has fed their neighbors every Tuesday and Thursday for years.

"Tomorrow's Tuesday," Pastor Marty said. "We can't let them down."

He said they have a long road ahead of them, but that they will never abandon the community they serve.

"A fire doesn't keep hunger away," Gordon said.

"When it comes down to it we're gonna continue to do that," Pastor Marty said.

The God of No Limits church will feed their neighbors as usual Tuesday afternoon from the parking lot of the church.

Oklahoma City fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire and have confirmed that a national ATF response team has been called in to help assess the damage.
