In August 2018, the NERC Board of Trustees approved a Request for Data under Section 1600 of the NERC Rules of Procedure to obtain geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) data collected by NERC entities. The GMD Data Request was developed to meet FERC directives in Order No. 830 for collecting geomagnetically induced current (GIC) and magnetometer data from registered entities for the period beginning May 2013, including historical data existing as of May 1, 2013, and new data for GMD events going forward. Data collection began in October 2020 with the first
reporting deadline in June 2021. Data is reported annually with a reporting
deadline of June 30.
