Program Benefits

The goal of our program is to expose senior medical students from outside institutions to clinical training in our academic pediatrics program.

Benefits of the program:

  • $1,000 stipend for travel and living expenses
  • Residency interview with Nationwide Children’s pediatric residency program during the experience
  • Housing provided by Nationwide Children’s Hospital
    • You have a home, become part of the family and really get to know the team
  • Four-week inpatient subinternship experience at a free-standing quaternary-care, nationally recognized pediatric institution
    • Rotations are offered September through December
    • Multiple subspecialties from which to choose
  • Course credit from home institution via application through the AAMC supported VSAS/VSLO
  • Inclusion in resident conferences and activities
  • Mentorship by residents, faculty and medical students as well as residency program leadership
  • Dedicated faculty serving as mentors
  • Additional meetings with Nationwide Children’s faculty can be arranged at the request of the student based on areas of interest
  • Opportunities for social networking and building relationships with a diverse group of residents and faculty while exploring Columbus, OH

Program Eligibility

  • Applicants must be in good standing at a U.S. accredited medical school and have completed core clinical clerkships with passing grades by the start of the rotation.
  • Because the goal of the visiting student rotation is to reach senior medical students from outside institutions, we ask that only applicants who are attending medical school at institutions not affiliated with Nationwide Children’s Hospital apply.
  • Our program focuses on fourth year medical students from diverse backgrounds.
