What is Self-Determination? Self-determination is related to one’s ability to advocate for themselves, make independent choices and decisions, problem solve, and set their own goals. Self-determination is an important predictor of student success during high school and beyond.

About the Self-Determination Inventory: The Self-Determination Inventory: Student Report (SDI:SR) asks students questions related to how they feel about their ability to use self-determination skills. This measure is available in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English. The questionnaire takes only 15 minutes to complete. After completing the SDI:SR, students will get a report about their self-determination skills.

For Teachers and Professionals

The Self-Determination Inventory: Student Report (SDI:SR) was developed in English by Kansas University researchers. Kansas University and NDC collaborated to translate SDI:SR to American Sign Language (ASL). The translated version contains both ASL videos and English text.

Students will receive an individualized report after completing the SDI:SR. This Student Report Guide provides more detailed information about how to interpret the student report. This student report can help you develop a plan to strengthen your students’ self-determination skills.
