Are content creators taking the place of traditional "celebrities"?
Yes, says beauty influencer and educator Alexis Androulakis, also one half the Lipstick Lesbians on TikTok.
“Creators on platforms are about to shift into the roles celebrities used to own,” she says.
“It's not a coincidence that talent management agencies are buying influencer agencies and absorbing them.”
The difference between a celebrity and a creator, from Androulakis’ perspective, is that when you fall in love with a celebrity, “you fall in love with a character.” However, a content creator has to “win you over as themselves.”
She points to J Lo, and the discourse around J Lo’s latest album and documentary, as an example of where we are today with “influencer culture vs. celebrity culture.”
What do you think? Are creators becoming the new “celebrities?” Drop a comment.
