- Have you ever imagined your work as an act of compassion? If you aren't someone who provides care to people as part of your career, then maybe not, but I want you to consider this with me. What if even your most mundane day-to-day work obligations could be opportunities for you to feel for and with other people? Imagine what it would look like if, as you make and remake your workplace, you did it with your eye on the goal of reducing suffering for both yourself and your team. That's the possibility I want you to create with me in this course. Now, I know that even if this sounds like a good idea to you, you might be skeptical. How do you even start to create a more compassionate workplace? Or maybe compassion just feels unfamiliar and a little uncomfortable for you. Well, I'm here to help. I'm Dr. Melissa Steach, and I'm an artist, author, and industrial-organizational psychologist focused on workplace well-being and holistic leadership. In this course, you'll discover why compassion is essential for work and learn concrete strategies for how to incorporate it into your leadership style and your work environment. I'll share with you ways to support both the physical, interpersonal, and emotional needs of your employees, as well as how to model compassionate behavior to ensure that it becomes an enduring part of your company culture. Next, I'll walk you through the role that ergonomics should play as you improve your workspaces to better support your workforce. This will help you feel equipped to make not only physical improvements, but cognitive and social ones as well.
