Jeremy Renner, who was injured in a snow plowing accident on New Year’s Day, underwent surgery Monday and remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition, his publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” while plowing snow near Reno, Nevada, and was in the intensive care unit, his publicist said.
“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him. … They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans,” the rep, Sam Mast, said in a statement.

On Sunday, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office near Reno was called to the Hawkeye star’s residence in the area of Mt. Rose Highway, public information officer Kristin Vietti told THR. Local authorities transported Renner to a nearby hospital; he was the only person involved in the incident. On Sunday, Mast said Renner was injured “after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow.” Further details about the incident weren’t revealed.
On Tuesday, Mast confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the accident occurred while the actor was moving snow from his and a neighbor’s driveway so his family could depart his Nevada residence following a holiday celebration. Family members were also with him at the time of the accident.
Renner is currently the lead in Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown, in which he takes on the role of Mayor Mike McLusky, who serves as a flawed system of checks and balances in the fictional Michigan town.
His injury comes ahead of the drama series’ planned Jan. 15 return. It’s unclear right now if the Taylor Sheridan-produced series will stick to that premiere date. A Jan. 11 press junket has already been canceled.
Rennervations, which is not yet dated, was also announced by Disney+ as an early 2023 release late last month.
Since earning his first Oscar nomination for The Hurt Locker in 2010, the Renner has been one of the more in-demand actors in Hollywood. The following year, Renner starred alongside Ben Affleck in The Town, which earned him his second consecutive Oscar nom. He made his debut as Hawkeye in 2011’s Thor, which has led to multiple appearances as the superhero in multiple films and a Disney+ series.
