Sarasota, yet again, is the best place to retire in the U.S.

The data doesn't lie: Sarasota continues its longstanding reign as a top Florida city.

Sarasota was crowned once again as the best place to retire in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report's 2021-2022 data.

The city previously won the title in 2021 and came in second for the 2020 report. 

Now, an article in Travel and Leisure said Sarasota's beaches, parks and cultural attractions make the city a popular vacation destination as well as an "ideal retirement community," drawing retirees with attractive activities such as fishing, golf, boating and water sports.

Sarasota's nearby beaches like Siesta Key and Lido Key also invite retirees into the Gulf of Mexico's warm waters — for both swimming and admiring. 

U.S. News analyzes data for the 150 largest metropolitan areas in the country, assessing retirements needs and expectations such as housing affordability, tax rates and health care quality. 

Other Florida cities — including Tampa, Fort Myers and Naples —  assumed eight out of the top 10 spots.

Virginia Haley, President of Visit Sarasota, said the newest recognition isn't too much of a surprise, citing the city's high ranking on various lists.

"This is one of numerous accolades our community has been receiving," she said. "I think Wall Street Journal called us a sizzling getaway a couple weeks ago. Time Magazine named us one of the top 100 places in the world to visit." 

"These accolades are really helping put Sarasota on the map."
