Murray on SCOTUS Agreeing to Hear a Direct Challenge to Roe v. Wade: “I Will Fight this Every Step of the Way”

Senator Murray: “We want a country where everyone can make the best choice for themselves about pregnancy and parenting and where everyone can get the abortion care they need—regardless of who they are, how much money they make or how they get their health care—so I will fight this every step of the way.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on the Supreme Court agreeing to hear the case of Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a direct challenge to the abortion protections codified in Roe v. Wade.

“For years, Republicans have chipped away at the right to abortion by peddling misinformation about reproductive health care, pushing state-level restrictions that make it impossible for patients—especially women of color, rural women and women who are paid low-incomes—to exercise their right to abortion, and filling our judicial system with far-right, anti-choice judges. Republicans’ non-stop efforts to control women’s bodies have led to this point: a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, with legal abortion hanging in the balance.

“But the majority of Americans don’t agree with the extreme view of the far right. We want a country where everyone can make the best choice for themselves about pregnancy and parenting and where everyone can get the abortion care they need—regardless of who they are, how much money they make or how they get their health care—so I will fight this every step of the way.”
