Description / Position Overview

City Council Internship

In this internship you will be assisting the City Council, and Staff during the comprehensive review of the 25 City Council Appointed Boards, Commissions and Committees. As identified in the City Council 2020-2024 Strategic Plan the purpose of this process is to identify programmatic and legislative efficiencies and enhancements within the Boards and Commissions program.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Evaluate current Boards and Commissions Program, including internal procedures, onboarding, trainings, and best management practices
  • Develop survey or information gathering mechanism to engage with staff liaisons and 200 volunteers to collect both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Attend various Boards and Commissions meetings 
  • Provide general program observations
  • Assist with legislative and municipal research
  • Aggregate survey results and present data in a clear and precise manner
  • Compile and review bylaws for Boards and Commissions
  • Draft promotional language for individual Boards and Commissions recruitments

 
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, executive staff, and community partners
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good personal judgment and discretion
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing


Successful candidates will have

  • Must be a current undergraduate Junior, Senior, or graduate student at the time of internship
  • An interest in the City of Colorado Springs and its government

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
