Position Summary

Perform a variety of routine and complex technical work in the development and support of the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) utility layers; Sanitary, Storm, and Water systems.  Use a variety of software applications to incorporate construction plan drawings into GIS.  These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

Essential Functions

Collects, inputs, edits and verifies spatial data from a variety of internal and external data sources.  Integrates associated attribute data.
 
Applies software including CAD, database, spreadsheet and word processing to the production and delivery of GIS related products.
 
Provides technical research, writes and edits project summaries.  Documents data entry and related procedures.
 
Assists with GIS analysis and supports data requests.   
 
Creates aesthetically compelling cartographic products.   
 
Complies with all safety rules and performs work in a safe manner.
 
Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.  Responds to customer service requests, questions and complaints.   Maintains a positive customer service demeanor and delivers service in a respectful and patient manner.
 
Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions. Builds confidence in the City through own actions. 
 
Maintains effective work relationships.
 
Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and current enrollment in or completion of bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in GIS, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Urban and Regional Planning or other related field.
 
One year experience and/or education in using ESRI ArcGIS 10.x preferred.
 
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Intermediate knowledge of GIS applications, analysis and mapping.

Familiarity with industry leading GIS systems and their mobile field applications.
 
Working knowledge of map projections.
 
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
 
Ability to organize own work, follow instructions, multi-task and seek assistance when appropriate.
 
Ability to get along well with co-workers and maintain effective working relationships.
 
Ability to pass a pre-employment background and/or criminal history check.

Ability to possess and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance and requirements.
