Compelling Captive Romance - Sex slaves with a twist!
I like captive romance stories for some reason but I always really want the captive heroine to one-up the guy holding her captive. I especially want her to get away, and the heroine does usually get away, but I want her to get away more than once. I want her to keep beating him at his own game, but generally she has to sit back and take it more often than not. The heroine eventually falls for him and he her, but I don’t know, I think I just want her to get him to either regret thinking he can own another person or change his mind about it completely.
So far in this book that hasn’t happened. Though the Hero, Sullivan Sinclair (a.k.a. Sully) does regret buying this particular captive for the island paradise he owns where Men come to get their darkest desires fulfilled by the “Goddesses”. The Goddesses are women that Sully owns and forces to work for him for four years.
The heroine is a young girl named Eleanor who is kidnapped from a youth hostel by sex traffickers while traveling around the world with her boyfriend. Eleanor was sold to Sully per his specifications of the kind of girl he wanted and he comes to regret ordering a girl with the types of assets he is attracted to. Sully never makes use of the girls he purchases for the Island and he is determined not to start with Eleanor, whom he renames as Jinx.
However, Eleanor is a fighter and she fights in different ways than other girls. She sits back and pays attention, she holds her fear and anger inside when other girls would display it outwardly. Eleanor lets it all come out in spurts where she tries to show Sully how wrong it is to do what he is doing. Of course Sully doesn’t care and justifies what he is doing in different ways, such as they would have it much worse if they were sold to someone else.
All Eleanor can think of is the fact that men are going to use her body against her will and no matter how gilded the cage is, it is still a cage and she wants to be free. There is a twist in that Sully owns a pharmaceutical corporation and is a chemist himself. He has created an elixir that turns a person into pure animalistic need. They are in pain if they don’t chase the “O” over and over until the drug wears off with anyone in the vicinity.
I like the fact that Eleanor/Jinx never decides to go with the flow. I like the fact that she keeps fighting for her freedom and Sully is a terrific anti-hero. He can’t stop thinking about her and he wants her. He fights his own responses and goes back and forth deciding he will just take her for himself, then hardening his resolve to sell her to his clients at a high rate. Sully is jealous of the other men (his clients). I usually hate reading about someone who bounces back and forth on decisions but in this case I am really enjoying his inner musings. I like the fact that he is not as in control as he wants to be.

This author never disappointed in delivering a gripping , addictive and delicious read. I am hooked and I want..no this is too tame said...I crave the next book ! This was so unpredictable and unexpected and "unputdownable".
Eleanor Grace is abducted by human traffickers when back-packing with her boyfriend and sold to Sullivan Sinclair to be a "goddess" on his island, where he rules with an iron fist.

SULLY : he is mysterious, powerful and oozes dominance from his every pore. He built this island for men to indulge in every dark, dirty and filthy fantasy they have. He has rules , he is composed and cold, and he never tasted his merchandise. When a new girl is sent to him, one that meets every requirement of his "dream" woman , things should be perfect no? well Sully darling ..nothing worth fighting for comes easy..

Sully might be intrigued by me, but…I was intrigued by him. I hated him—of that there was no doubt or question. But…he also confused me.He conjured terror beyond measure but also a heat that couldn’t be denied. His attractiveness was just as deadly as those plants that lured frogs and insects to their untimely death, killing them with beauty."
I love PW writing style, the descriptions and imagination she has. I wish this island were real , I need to try Euphoria !!!
This ended with a bang and The next book cannot come soon enough dammit!

I couldn't think of words to write. Damn cliffhanger, badass Eleanor, fucking Sully ... don't blame me, I loved to hate this book! Still, I'm going to read the whole series. I just loved the story!

I don’t know why it’s been so long since I’ve read a Pepper Winters book! The stories I have read of hers I have always enjoyed! She does dark really well!
In this first instalment of this series, I have quickly become engrossed in this fantasy world... this has been a wonderful introduction to an island where inhibitions stay at the door. It seems I am beginning to have more questions than answers at this point, but I’m definitely intrigued with what’s to come.
I am getting frustrated with Sully and the choices he’s making when it comes to Eleanor. I will admit that I am not liking him at the moment! I do see potential deep down inside of him, and I hope his better side comes out soon! Eleanor is a very strong willed women who is fighting her captivity at ever turn. I’ll be super interested to see what she brings to the table in future books!
I can’t not bring up the parrot!!! He’s definitely one of my favourite characters so far!!!😂😂😂

The first book has set the stage for some heavy breathing, pulse pounding tale of roiling emotions which are her trademark. Topped with in-depth look at a bigger motive to make the world a better place, this series is sure to be a Runaway hit
Pepper has always been unconventional in her tropes, her hard hitting stories embed the heart and linger forever. Her heroes are omnipotent, supremely intelligent and above all, Nobel in their covert missions. Q & Jethro occupy a special place in my heart and now comes Sully Sinclair.(I love the unique names Pepper comes up with!!)
This book takes us to a pristine, idyllic paradise, apparently in Indonesian archipelago.

Heavenly setting, peaceful surroundings are a virtual prison where Eleanor Grace is abducted & transplanted to, as a Goddess to serve fantasy driven, fetish island club for rich & powerful men

She's regal in demeanor, strong and sharp, which presents a challenge for Sully. He's used to having women fall at his feet and obey unquestionably. Sully has several tricks up his sleeve to bend the rigid spine and unyielding bodies of these trafficked women and soon they fall and write at his feet, pliant and yearning to be used. His physical beauty coupled with dynamic brain makes him a dangerous opponent and ruthless ruler
"He was a demon, a monster, a god of sin, emperor of lust, and undisputed king of danger."
The story is breathtakingly beautiful. Pepper has changed her prose style in the last couple of books, I've noticed. Instead of lengthy monologues and inner turmoil, the plot is more dialogues driven, which makes it a very slick and interactive. The pace is so smooth and fast, the book went by super fats from start to finish. I could touch and feel the zinging chemistry between Sully & Jinx, his Goddess.
First scene on and you could feel the threatening sexual attraction promising explosions not far away.
This being the first book in the series, I was hooked, lined and sinkered

The worst thing to ever happen to me?

IRREDEEMABLE man. Even if he works a MIRACLE at the end of the book, this man cannot be forgiven, nor can he redeem himself.

Well, technically, he is not participating in the act himself, but I mean, he just buys the women from human traffickers, drug them, and gives them to the customers so that they can be enjoyed/fucked/raped by them. BUT HEY?! They have orgasms; apparently, they enjoy it... YEAH RIGHT... I am pretty sure they are SO HYPED by the idea of being fucked by a different stranger every week.
Not Irredeemable maybe, but definitely annoying/horrifying elements of Sully...

As a reader / I COULD still hatefully get attracted to this man at some points. He cannot ever be justified. He can't ever be redeemed. That's just impossible. Yet I lusted over him.

You know I knew when I pick up Miss Wonters book, I was expecting this twisted and dark theme. A kidnapping usuallh involved. In her other books the heros has knight in the shinning armour quality.
In Once a Myth, I hav difficult time connecting with Sully. He is the anti hero in this story. He is presented to me to me to me to be brutal, unforgiving, dark and twisted. And yet I am annoyed with him. As we know Miss Peppers always reveal the final plot at the end. This bool ends in cliffhanger.
I also do not have patience with the push and pull between Eleanor and Sully. Its too needy. Too dragging.
Regardless the short comings, I do admit the story line have stirs my curiosity. However, I am not going to continue to next book. I think 1 elixir is enough.

It's been a while since I last read a book and thought:
A secret island.
A very lucrative illegal business.
An elixir that alters a woman libido, making them lascivious and indecent to cater to influential and powerful clients their most depraved and dirties desires.
An anti-hero.
Got the memo, right? Not a Romance.
It's definitely not life-changing but it's very entertaining, sufficient to say I went to bed at 4 am because I couldn't put this down.
I just wonder for how long this can keep my interest since there are 4 more books.
Why authors do that?

Sullivan Sinclair is Pepper Winters best anti hero ever! EVER!! Yes I went there, I said it! I’m so intrigued by him. Just when I thought there was no beating Q, along comes Sully. His intelligence is both a turn on and a scary thing. I’m not confident that I know him well enough to trust him and his actions. And I really like that. I like been kept on my toes and not knowing how he’s going to react. I wanted to dislike him (I really did) but that’s obviously not what happened. He has this untouchable aura surrounding him. There’s something about him that drew me to him from the start. He’s good looking, rich and intelligent. He oozes power and control but he’s got that tortured, don’t push me too hard because you won’t like the consequences vibe going on that I can’t get enough of. He may not be a good guy but he is definitely a hot one.
Eleanor is a determined, stubborn woman. She’s not the type to follow orders and has no problem voicing her opinion, and I loved that about her. She doesn’t want to be there and I can’t wait to see how she copes with whatever the future books have in store for her.
There’s a constant push and pull battle between the two characters that i found very addictive. The chemistry between them is combustible and the slow burn is done perfectly. I’ve never wanted to read a book as fast as I can yet at the same time wanted to take my time and savour every word as I did with this book.

The storyline is unique, it’s flawlessly executed and this book is a definite must read for fans of darker romances. I can’t wait for the next books in this series and to see what’s in store for Sullivan and Eleanor.

4,5 “What has Pepper turned me into” stars
Ladies and gents, fasten your seatbelt and invest in lots of spare pairs of panties!
As there are major twists and turns in this story AND I promised to write a spoiler free review, I will stay relatively vague about the plot. But I will delve deeper into the feelings and thoughts I got from this story!
The plot in a nutshell is a story of abduction. A woman, Eleanor, will be abducted right under the nose of her boyfriend by slave traffickers and sold to Sullivan. As the synopsis states, Sullivan owns an isle populated by women he bought and remade into sexual slaves: his goddesses. Not for his own pleasure but for that of guests.
Insanely rich and paying guests.
But there is a twist as he sells more than “just” girls. I won’t explain here but Pepper added a special layer with scientific developments. Something that I didn’t know if it made the women’s fate better …or worse.
Because everything is a question of perspective!
Let’s be clear here: I, of course, know that it’s morally wrong to kidnap women to keep them as sexual slaves! But sometimes, their fate on the island seemed not as bad as you could think.
And that’s what Pepper Winters did here: turning something that is inherently wrong, appalling to its core into a story layered with nuances. You will question your own morals. You will wonder why you keep reading and just not shut the book and shout everywhere that it’s disgusting! In fact, you will be trapped. Ensnared in that story the same way the paradisiac island lulled people into a false sense of paradise.
From the start I rooted for Eleanor. She was brave, determined and very, very in control. She had her emotion on a tight leash, trying to be smart and find a way to escape her captivity. But she was far from unfeeling. Quite the opposite in fact. When you push your feelings down and down and down …one moment or another they will erupt like lava from a volcano!
And of course, there will be consequences …
Sullivan …should be hated and despised.
After all, he has more than grey morale for what he is doing to these women. In a sick and twisted way, he even considers that he is being benevolent and helping them. Yet he worships animal life. Sully is a paradox. The surface has barely been scratched here and I just feel deep in my guts that there is much more to know about him that will explain all his complex personality.
He also is in total control, repressing a savagery that you have rarely read about! By the end of book one, I won’t say that I love him but certainly that I am intrigued by his enigmatic personality. He is one of the bests anto heroes that I have read so far!
Eleanor and Sullivan will clash in epic proportion and be warned that you’ll have very brutal scenes. If you can’t stand stories with sexual slavery, abuse and more, please pass your way you won’t like this!!!
But for all the brutality, the sex scenes, the abuse, the “amoral” characters, Pepper succeeded in writing a story where nothing is black or white, but in all shades of grey with a permanent stress and off the charts sexual tension.
I dare say that Tears of Tess, one of my favorites from Pepper Winters, feels nearly like child play compared to Goddess Isles��s series.
Once a Myth is not for the faint of hearts and has huge triggers. It's a twisted, complex and so potent story that you won't be able to stop reading. #iamaddicted
And of course, we are left on a huge cliffy so now I need the sequel!

One of my favorite dark authors has done it again!!! While backpacking with my boyfriend in Mexico, I was stolen and captive by sex-traffickers. What I love also is seeing old characters Tess showed up in this book while Eleanor was in captivity. Stolen and held captive until sold to the highest bidder, However my new owner lives on his own island paradise but little do Eleanor know she was a special request that this paradise never thought he would come across but here I am stepping into his oasis.
Sullivan Sinclair (Sully) inherited his parents pharmaceutical/scientist company and cashed in to buy his paradise of islands. "Sex is the oldest business in the world." He will provide his visitors he allow to visit his island the fantasies of their dreams with the women he bought and paid for his goddess. All they have to do is sign a contract for 4 years and he will let them go. The only stipulation is they take his elixir that he and his team invented and spend it in euphoria. One thing I never did was sample my goddess I was a business man, I worked myself to death to never think about what I was sacrificing for my success. That is until the latest purchase step off the helicopter. My every request in a goddess comes to face me. Now I must resist every raw temptation I'm feeling. She popped my “dark” cherry with Indebted and she has written one of my all time favorite dark Series : Dollar. I was really looking forward to read this new Series.. and Thank God Pepper didn’t disappoint me:
“Once a Myth” was a great start to what I am assuming will be another deliciously twisted Series.
Shortly, here's what happens:
As Eleanor and her boyfriend were staying in a hostel in Mexico, she's kidnapped and sold by the same traffickers we met in Tears of Tess.
Sullivan Sinclair purchases women and offers them to rich men that come to his island paradise to live all their twisted fantasies. Sully has never been interested in his goddesses..Until he met Eleanor, who slowly becomes his obsession and makes him break all his rules.
So..
Addictive-unique Plot? ✔️
An incredible exotic setting? ✔️
Mysterious-Ruthless- Hot as f*ck villain ✔️
Strong-Smart-Fierce heroine ✔️

Twisted, hot, raw, addictive..I really enjoyed this book.
The author was able to suck me into her world and I was completely captivated.
I swear, I couldn’t put it down and I may or may not read it until 6.30 a.m. .
It was a fast read, a sort of long prologue, where we get to know the main characters and witness their first interactions. For this reason I want to be cautious with my rating because this was only the “tip of the iceberg”..I need more.
For now I'll rate it a 4 ⭐️ but I reserve the right to change it and rate the Series as a whole later.

This Girl deserves a standing ovation because she was everything I need in a heroine, especially in a captive story:

I really love the captive/captor trope..unfortunately it’s hard to find a strong heroine who isn’t a doormat or a complete idiot. Eleanor menages to keep up with Sully and I assure you..their interactions are highly entertaining and HOT.

Oh yes Ladies, Pepper knows how to write HOT scenes.
Now, let's talk about Mr Sinclair.
Honestly, I haven't decided if I want to kiss or strangle him yet.
Don't get me wrong, Dear Sully is a fantastic Villain :
confident, strong, smart, powerful, charismatic, ruthless and sinful.
He reminds me of my beloved Elder Priest but, as I said before, this book was just an appetizer.. Sully is a mystery I still have to figure out.
He's the reason why I gave only 4 ⭐️ because some things about him bugged me :
1- Sully is supposed to be this ruthless businessman, who buys kidnapped women and offers them in his exclusive tropical brothel for kinky billionaires. On the other hand he's an hardcore vegetarian, animals activist, ecologist and pays scientists to find a cure for cancer.
Seriously, I'm wondering if in the next book he'll join Greenpeace.
All these references about the planet, pollution, sustainability, animal tests, intensive farming (..) are antithetical and out of character.
As I said before..he's a puzzle.

2- I have mixed feelings about the Cliffhanger.
The final twist shocked me and I swear..I can’t wait to read the next book.
On the other hand, I'm old-fashioned and I don't like when the male character shares his heroine (especially, without her consent).
The book ends right before a drugged Eleanor is about to have sex with her first client in Euphoria and I really hope Sully will interrupt them because his final decision to accept his guest's offer really disappointed me.
Here's what Pepper wrote in her site about Goddess Isles Series:
“..Four men.
Four fantasies.
Four pieces of her soul..”
I can't complain when an author delivers what she promised but, as I said before, I don't like this type of behavior. I'm not sure If I can push my boundaries, accept it and continue this series..I'm afraid Sully wouldn’t be redeemable and I wouldn't root for this couple.
This may be a case of “It's me, not the book”, nothing wrong just a personal taste in romance.
But who knows?
In the past I loved books with situations and behaviors I would never have thought I could accept. I will try to keep an open mind because this author deserves the chance to make me change my opinion.

He reminds me of my beloved Elder Priest but, as I said before, this book was just an appetizer.. Sully is a mystery I still have to figure out.
He's the reason why I gave only 4 ⭐️ because some things about him bugged me :
1- Sully is supposed to be this ruthless businessman, who buys kidnapped women and offers them in his exclusive tropical brothel for kinky billionaires. On the other hand he's an hardcore vegetarian, animals activist, ecologist and pays scientists to find a cure for cancer.
Seriously, I'm wondering if in the next book he'll join Greenpeace.
All these references about the planet, pollution, sustainability, animal tests, intensive farming (..) are antithetical and out of character.
As I said before..he's a puzzle.

2- I have mixed feelings about the Cliffhanger.
The final twist shocked me and I swear..I can’t wait to read the next book.
On the other hand, I'm old-fashioned and I don't like when the male character shares his heroine (especially, without her consent).
The book ends right before a drugged Eleanor is about to have sex with her first client in Euphoria and I really hope Sully will interrupt them because his final decision to accept his guest's offer really disappointed me.
Here's what Pepper wrote in her site about Goddess Isles Series:

I can't complain when an author delivers what she promised but, as I said before, I don't like this type of behavior. I'm not sure If I can push my boundaries, accept it and continue this series..I'm afraid Sully wouldn’t be redeemable and I wouldn't root for this couple.
This may be a case of “It's me, not the book”, nothing wrong just a personal taste in romance.
But who knows?
In the past I loved books with situations and behaviors I would never have thought I could accept. I will try to keep an open mind because this author deserves the chance to make me change my opinion.

What did I just have the privilege of reading !!!!
I am gobsmacked with the cleverness of Pepper Winters and how she creates wondrous stories from unforgiving brutality and loss.
Pepper has created the most sinful anti hero yet. Sully Sinclair oozes power and control. His beauty is a bonus that’s work wonders with his delicious charm but it’s his intelligence that scares the living days out of me. His island is an enticement of dark desires colliding with fantasies however for the delectable Eleanor it’s a nightmare that has just begun.
The explosive chemistry between these two characters is an aphrodisiac. Their connection is a tug of war of emotions that leaves you hating their fight but loving their pull to one another. They are chaotic and violent and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Your skin will be seared with so much lust and heart palpitations.
This story got me from the very beginning. The island pulls you in like it’s owner with beauty and charm but what lies inside is a world like no other..

Really??!!! I am appalled to know how many people like this book and absolutely horrified with the ratings. There is no doubt about the author's writing skills, but the plotline, hero and heroine disgusted me to no end. This is about people lusting after one another and behaving like or worse than animals in heat. I wonder what happened to " Pepper Winters", is it the same author who wrote emotionally draining n beautiful romances like Dollar series?! Sheesh..worst books ever...can't waste any more time on this and to think it is a 5 book series, oh please, I have to go puke now. I have read some smutty novels better than this.

To say I consumed this book is trite and underwhelming. But yeah, I consumed it and greedily dove into the next book.
Fresh, original, and irresistibly captivating, this is a romance reader's paradise.

There is something about Pepper's writing that just consumes me while I'm reading. Her attention to detail is spectacular, and the depth of this story just blew me away. This is the stuff that makes a book so much more than what it is.
I don't think Pepper could have given me a better Christmas present than this book. It's everything I wanted from her, and then some.
The angst of this story is my favorite part. I love that this is more slow burn romance, and that she didn't just throw them together.
Gahhh the last two chapters... I died.
This is heart-stopping, wickedly hot, and so scandalous that Sully will be the death of me.
She owns me now with this.

This has been 2020 most highly anticipated read for me and let me tell you I was not disappointed. I was INTRUIGED. This was unputdownable. Incredible and oh so Pepper. She is BACK people and let me tell you, she is covered in that delicious darkness that made me first fall in love with her incredibly twisted and talented world of words
Elenore Grace AKA Goddess Jinx is such a strong courageous heroine. There is much to be said about her strength, her integrity and determination to be a survivor not a victim.
Sullivan Sinclair AKA Sully is dark, deliberate and smart character. Sex oozes from his very pores, it’s in his walk, his, talk, his confidence and every goddamn dirty word he says. Hints of redeemable qualities seep through the cracks of his dark soul but have yet to outweigh his dark side but there are plenty more books in the series to persuade me otherwise.
Now the ending has to be mentioned here because Once a Myth Leaves you completely strung. Your tied up, wound up, bound up in every moment of the story, and then it just stops. Yep! You read that right. It just stops! Mid scene. Mid Important moment and your left hanging &@#! Gah!!!!! But its okay you don’t have to wait too long till Twice a Wish is released Thank God!!!!!
I both read the E- Book then listened to the audio book – Sarah Puckett did an Exceptionally perfect portrayal of Elenore. I was so excited when I found out one of my favorite authors was being paired with my favorite female narrator, but Sarah really nailed this beyond my expectations. . Scott Rider is a new male narrator for me and was a fitting for his character . His voice is deep, dominant and commanding, making for one sexy Sully.
Audio Length is 8h 17 min and is one hell of a listen! I give both 5 Stars

This book turned out to be VERY different from what I was expecting. At first I wasn’t feeling it because I’m kind of tired of the interconnected storyline & the sold into slavery trope. I wanted something new and different from Pepper.
Then I got to 20% of this and I was like Fuck Me! It’s definitely not what I thought it was and I’m actually looking forward to the follow up books because the storyline is really good.

Eleanor is shockingly a solid lead and I’m excited to see how her character grows! I loved that she’s not the usual weak and overly dramatic heroine. She was able to hold her own with Sully even when he viewed her as Livestock!
All in all this was a good book, not dark as her previous ones but I still enjoyed it. Yes like always there’s things I don’t like about it but not enough for me pick them apart.
One thing I will say is you have to go into this with and open mind because it’s a wild ride, now point me in the direction of this magical elixir!!!!!
