Help Me Get My Friends Out of Gaza

Hi, my name is Kate Robinson, and I'm an author, photographer, and marketing specialist in Oklahoma City. I started studying Arabic two years ago, which is when I met Heba Ahmad Madhoun, an Arabic tutor from Palestine. We have been meeting several times a month since then and have become good friends. Heba is such a kind, patient, wonderful teacher who works tirelessly to support her family of 7. She has a wonderful husband, Ahmad Madhound, and five precious children Yazen, Hala, Amal, Said, and Joud.

On October 14, her house was destroyed and her husband injured by Israeli bombing. For the last four months, Heba and Ahmad have been trying to protect, feed, and care for their five children while living in overcrowded and dangerous UNRWA shelters in Gaza, enduring extreme temperatures and constant fear. Currently they are living in a tent in Rafah, where Israeli forces have announced plans to begin a ground invasion in just a few weeks.

The living conditions in Gaza have become unbearable. Heba tells me that every day is worse than the last and that nowhere is safe. Unfortunately, only those with money are able to leave Gaza by way of the Rafah Crossing into Egypt, and even that is not always reliable. I promised her I would do everything I could to help her, but there is not much I can do on my own, so I'm asking for your help as well. Prices to coordinate travel out of Gaza have skyrocketed since the beginning of the war, costing anywhere from $5,000-$10,000 per person. If I can raise the funds I might be able to help them get to safety. If I don't mean the goal, I can at least help them provide food for themselves and others around them. Please consider helping out this sweet family if you have anything to spare.
