Contest Brief

THE CONTEST IS CLOSED AND WE ARE AIMING TO AWARD LAST SELECTED WINNERS BY 15TH OF MAY

We are excited to announce an opportunity for freelancers to collaborate with researchers at the Digital, Data, and Design Institute (D^3) (https://d3.harvard.edu/) at Harvard to source the most innovative and cutting-edge circular economy solutions for the business world.

Circular Economy is a simple idea.

Basically it involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible.

We would like you to submit your circular economy idea, which can be a unique new idea or an existent idea that is used in the industry.

Here is an example: Car Sharing in order to reduce the carbon footprint associated with driving.

Here is more information on circular economy:
https://ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/topics/circular-economy-introduction/overview

Submit your real-life use cases on how companies can implement the circular economy in their businesses. New ideas are also welcome, even if they are 'moonshots'. Your suggestions will help Harvard researchers understand the impact of the circular economy on business. Let's get creative and revolutionize the world through the circular economy!

STEP 1: COMPLETE THE GOOGLE FORM HERE
Submit your solution using the Solution Design Wizard (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnpXiomdtxVpDYq0fyldSyJ397Gc36UBTHb-FKMnKORqCU_g/viewform), which will guide you through the process.

***You are not limited to one submission, you can send as many submissions to the Solution Design Wizard as you want in case you have more than one idea.

Check out these examples (https://www.notion.so/Circular-Economy-Examples-0da4b9250abf4b64bfa7618a74bb3aac) for inspiration.

STEP 2: ENTER THE CONTEST
Submit a “Letter of Intent” as an entry in this contest page by clicking blue "submit entry" button in the top right corner of this page. This is just to keep records of the Freelancer usernames that are participating in the contest. You only need to do it once, whereas the google form you can send as many times as you wish, depending on how many ideas you have.

STEP 3: WAIT TO SEE IF YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED!
It is now time to be patient, we will contact you if your idea(s) are awarded a prize!

Our team will be evaluating your entries using the following criteria:
* Novelty (How different is it from existing solutions?)
* Environmental Impact (How much does it benefit the planet?)
* Financial Impact (What financial value can it create for businesses?)
* Feasibility and Scalability of Implementation (How likely is it to succeed and how scalable is it?)

PRIZES:
The best overall solution will receive a $1,000 prize and be presented with an official trophy from the D^3 Institute at Harvard.

Top 500 best solutions will receive a cash prize of $10 each. The same freelancer could potentially win multiple prizes if they had submitted more than one winning entries! Apart from the cash prize, the winning entries will receive a letter from a Harvard faculty member and an official certificate from Harvard D^3 Lab.

Some creators of the best solutions will also receive an invitation to participate in an exclusive two-day virtual Circular Economy Catalyst Event at Harvard Business School in April 2023 to learn how leading companies, startups, and investors are engaging in the circular economy.

Please note that if two or more top submissions are similar, the one entered first shall be the winning submission. Time is key!

    Dear Freelancers,

In accordance with Section 4 of the Freelancer.com User Agreement, all communications and interactions must be conducted exclusively through the platform. Direct contact with our client (D3 Lab at Harvard or any of the Harvard staff) or freelancers outside of the platform (e.g. via email thread, even if just replying to the thread) is strictly prohibited.

Communication with a client or other freelancers via email or any other medium outside of the platform can get your account limited or terminated.

The User Agreement states: 'While using the Website, you will not attempt to or otherwise do any of the following: post false, inaccurate, misleading, deceptive, defamatory or offensive content (including personal information); transfer your Freelancer account (including feedback) and Username to another party without our consent; distribute or post spam, unsolicited, or bulk electronic communications, chain letters, or pyramid schemes.'

Freelancer.com Statement on Harvard D^3 Circular Economy Contest:

    Dear Participants,

Thank you for your engagement and feedback in the Harvard D^3 Circular Economy contest. We appreciate your concerns regarding certificates and platform fees, and we want to clarify these matters.

The original contest brief did not mention personalized certificates. Instead, it stated that winners would receive a "letter from a Harvard faculty member and an official certificate from Harvard D^3 Lab." We have fulfilled these rewards as promised, in digital format.

However, based on your feedback, we have decided to issue personalized certificates with participants' names as a gesture of goodwill. Additionally, we understand your concerns about the platform fee compared to the prize value, so we will refund the $5 contest fee to your account.

We highly value your contributions and will consider your feedback for future contests.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I'm pretty sure my entry wasn't checked. It has provided highly innovative solutions to the circular economy. I am participating in the climate conference in my country, Egypt. You have provided very innovative and effective solutions. Unfortunately I wasted my time and my entry was not verified.

Regarding D3 landing page message given by Anar K. on their platform I would like to say that people always do not check everything in website/online mode. Many of them prefers to see things directly in physical format also, moreover when it is a matter of any official certificate or letter and that too comes from a prestigious organization like Harvard! Always it does not become possible also to direct people to any landing page to see our past experience or bio-data sort of things. They many times prefer physical documents to look upon. So, it does not help. I hope the contest team will keep this point in their mind too. Thank you.

Hope that helps

Dear CH, Thanks for your congratulation mail. I have updated my price to $10 accordingly. Also, instead of sending generic certificate and letter from harvard kindly send individuals name written on the letter and certificate. I think then only it will be relevant for us who won the contest. We hope CH will look into this matter seriously and address this points from their end. Thank you :)

Dear CH, thank you for the Congratulations mail, but it would be highly grateful if you could add our names for future reference. Also, you said to change the bid to $10, how do we change our bid as i am new to freelancer and haven't put any bid on this contest before. To add on, i have submitted 2 entries, but you said $10, so does this mean one of my entries made it and the other one didn't? Thanks in Advance

The contest holder has access to the Google form and will select the winners. If they choose more than one of your entries, they will pay you the corresponding amount. Whether you have submitted one or multiple entries here, it doesn't make a difference. Although your bid is $10, they can pay more than that for your entry. Hope this helps.
